My friend was DP and Director on this ,i was on the set 2 times filming behind the scenes footage, hope you like it :)

I never understand why directors let the guy leave without picking up the gun! So he leaves with the knife? I dont get that. But it was shot well. And I didnt like how he set the trap, pushed the wrong direction. He should of pulled it..as not puting him self in front of it in case it sprang by mistake..as a trained killer would do. Sorry, am I nit picking?

Critique: During events such as him tying up his arm and running through the woods and guns being pointed in his direction, would have been much better if there was a feeling of frantic from the camera's eyes. Steady tracking shots as he is running through the woods doesn't really work. This is an intense scene and the camera should mimic it, fast jib moves unsteady shoulder mounts not giving the character lead room faster cuts between character reaction would add to the scene. It's to pretty for this to be a prisoner escape scene. Some shots also need to be cut shooter to keep it moving. Shoulder mount long lens compress the background...make it feel almost uncomfortable to the viewer as it is very uncomfortable for the character being chased by three armed military.

Praises: Dont get me wrong now, this was beautifully shot short and great color grading. Music kept the pace up. Sound design is nice.

Great film. Would have loved to work on it. Keep em coming. You friend has a lot of potential!

This was shot much more commercially cleaner than most of the short movies I see on this site. It was able to communicate that is was a scene from a actual genre. In contrast to alot of shorts I see that seem genreless . Not saying genre is a must but is cool to see a small short film be able to communicate that. Shows some skill as a film maker. I would add in next time some more flight or fight response type of facial reactions on the actors face during the action. The character did not look strained during the action. Arnold and van damn kept it cool during action in terms of emotional torment in some movie scenes , but they always showed a logical amount of strain on their facial reactions when it was appropriate. Usually then when you add in musical strings for action or hard drums its representative of the characters internal perceptual intensity and can invite us to feel that as a viewer. It seems you are farther ahead than most of the competitors on this site, and I suggest to smartly reflect on what worked and especially on what didn't work so you know how to add to the existing value next short film , so you keep getting better and better.
