Log Line - Resignation Is Not An Option

Synopsis - When Robert finds himself locked in a prison cell for reasons unknown and by persons unknown a slow realisation begins to dawn on him. Resignation from Pris-tech is not an option and the consequences become grimly apparent for those that do.

Pris-Tech, my final film with Orkney Movie Group before moving from the UK to Canada, is online for selective viewing.

Please watch and review.
Thank you.

Great film, amazing locations! i dont want to say too much so i cant give anything away...but the concept is great and the deliverance is even better!!

Coo, intro, and creepy music. It kinda fit.

Where was this shot? I'm guessing you moved to Sudbury cause your 3-4 hours from me.

Some ok shots, and overall good editing. Nice props though, and location.

Robbie

Hi Robbie, thanks for taking time to comment.

It was filmed in Orkney, in the UK. We had use of the old Kirkwall Police station, we filmed on the old WW2 airfield, which is where the building front is on the dolly shot and that building was an old cinema. Orkney has many great film locations.

I moved to Sudbury in February of 2009.

Great job! Congratulations to cast & crew. I really liked the concept and thought you pulled it off in general.

Constructive comments (and just my opinion):
1. Could have moved a little faster through the first half of the film. Tighten-up the edit and a little less chase in the 'prison' would go a long way.
I get the idea of pulling the viewer into this surreal world, just think it could be paced better.

2. Soundtrack was very interesting and fit the 'spacey' theme, but sounded a little dated. Perhaps some more modern sounds would help.
It did want me to dig out all my old synths though! (or listen to 'Uma Guma')

3. Could look a little more filmic overall. It looked very 'videoish' to me in places. I don't know what this was shot on, but 16x9 and some
color correction would benefit the film overall.

4. Sound design - like any film, it's tough to get good clean audio at a shoot most of the time. This aspect of the film could use a little tweaking.
There was some noisey dialogue in the office scenes that seemed gated or just cut/faded. Room tone would have helped.

Again, these are just my observations as a viewer.
You all did an outstanding job on the film. Thank you for sharing!

Hello there!

This is a charming retro - 70s-esque British inspired science fiction short - that while a little vintage in its production style, (4:3 aspect ratio, lack of grading, and synthesised soundtrack) it does ironically lend to in fact enhance the very parrochial cult sci-fi feel of the piece.

The film could do with improvements to 'pace' for the start sequence (perhaps just a little) as i do like the time we are given to absorb the atmosphere of the chap's imprisonment.

The acting is a little inconsistent in the office, and its location setting is perhaps a little too community hall-ish for its own good however...

The abandoned police station and the island setting of Orkney delivers an unusual and disturbing location that creates a great little atmosphere.

So a retro cult little film that i found to be entertaining. Now DarkElastic - Marshall, is of in Canada and will be producing films there - so i look forward to see what works you end up getting involved in across the Atlantic.

Well done!

So I finally got around to downloading this film after Vimeo took forever to stream it.

Overall it was very well done and as Lawrie has noted, there is a very retro 70s vibe going on, which lends itself to some surreal imagery and feel, but I think it rather worked against the film in some asptect. The pacing is definitely one of those points that feels very 70s. If you're like me and you are annoyed by how anything takes forever to happen in one of those 70s films... well say no more. THe movie could have been half it's length and gotten to the point way quicker. Yes we get the point that he's isolated and we soon find out why, but too much of that in the beginning.

Granted, I did like the eventual reveal of the information and the plotting was handled nicely with the way memories returned.

Some of the production value was off especially in terms of locations (and why were all of those doors unlocked? That in particular drove me crazy and made me want to hit the director over the head, but it may have been because of the length and seemngly pointless nature of the chase scene). A tighter edit can fix alot of those problems.

The edit right now is EXTREMELY reminiscent of English television, so well done for across the pond, but not so well for an international audience. Just feels slow. Well done, but slow.
