Prime vs Zoom lens sharpness test

This is my third round of FS100 lens testing. I'm not done with parfocal zoom lens testing yet but I wanted to mix things-up a little and compare a really great zoom lens to a really great prime lens.

Here are the contenders:

Zoom lens
Sony 16-50mm f/2.8 zoom lens (link goes to round two, where I first tested this lens). Round 1 (with 11 lenses) is here: FS100 parfocal zoom lens shootout

Prime Lens
Minolta MD Rokkor-X 50mm f/1.4

Here is the latest article and test video:
Prime vs Zoom lens test on the Sony FS100

Hey Shawn, I looked through your test but couldn't find anything with the SAL 28-75 2.8. (may have missed it?)

I think I might be looking at this lens after the software update coming up. It's more the range I need vs the 16-50. (and the prices are similar)

I mentioned this lens only briefly in my big lens shootout (in the KM 28-75 f/2.8 section). I did get a review copy prior to my part 1 shootout and shot some footage with it but I wasn't able to get it back for the shootout. I found the lens to be parfocal but the build quality was not to the level of the beautiful SAL1650. The zoom ring was also not evenly dampened and was a bit sticky.

But considering its price and performance, I will probably buy one at some point as it is still one of the better normal zoom lenses for the FS100 when you factor cost and that the FS100 doesn't require FF lenses.

@Paul F - what else would you like to see?
