Pricing F5 F55

And you can stick the damn camera on your shoulder. BTW Scarlet can't record anything internally. You need a side module for that. I ain't no fanboy either.

My Scarlet sits on my shoulder just fine and the side module is not an accessory, thats a mandatory item which is bundled in with purchase, meaning yes, it is internally. Thats like saying You have a car but the tires are optional... You pay for tires, although the wheels are built on.

So yes Scarlet records RAW internally. Thats a silly remark to say otherwise.

- For the time being I'm investing money in high quality cinema glass, no need to keep spending 20K plus a year or 2 on the " newest camera". I'll just keep my lenses for 30 years and be happy. Now I just need to decide which glass I want...

Choose your own tyres. Only a choice of one though...

I've seen loads of F3's appearing on the classifieds, and all around this price, and none shifting. I bought my F3 just over a year ago for full price, then spent 3 grand on the S-log update - so to see F3's being sold for around £5k is saddening. It's a fantastic camera and I think there is loads of life in the old baby yet.

Just contacted CVP in the UK to get a price for a trade in against an F5 - the answer was £3k (ex sale tax). That's a drop of £10k in a year.

You can't go by that. There are a number of factors involved that make that inaccurate.

1) Wholesale is less than retail. They want to resell it. They need a profit margin. Retail profit margin is often 100% on items that may sit awhile. It has to do with the cost of money.

2) The market is particularly soft right now because a bunch of people will sell at any cost to buy a new camera. It should go part way back later.

Right now the resale market seems to be $7,500 to $10,000 USD depending on condition. My expectation is that it will be $8,500 to $11,000 depending on condition, once the dust settles.

You guys see prices on Bhphotovidoe? Those MSRP or..... . . ?

F5 - $19,400
F55 - $34,900
AXS - $5,300
DVF-EL100 - $4,930
DVF-L350 - $3,230
DVF-L700 - $5,000

Here's what I had as MSRP...

PPMW-F5 CineAlta 4K Camera** ******** *********** $19,400
PMW-F55 CineAlta 4K Camera ******** ********* ** $34,900
AXR-R5 RAW Recorder********************* ********** $6,300
AXS-512S24 512Gb Memory Card***************$2,100
AXS-CR1 card reader********************************** $660.00
DVF -EL100 OLED Viewfinder**********************$5,800
DVF-F350 3.5” LCD Viewfinder********************$3,800
DVF-L700 LCD viewfinder****************************$5,000
SCL-PK6/F PL mount six lens package******* *$24,600
SCL-PK3/F PL mount three lens package*****$13,600

So if I cut and pasted correctly from the date MSRP where listed... both the evf and recorder are 15% lower... I think even the batteries seemed cheaper (unless B & H listed different ones)..

The prices listed on at B & H or when I called Abel are still 20k & 35k for the cameras...

okay I'm hearing $16,400 for the F5 and just under $29,000 for the F55...

now what I like to know is record times on the cards for 4k both raw or just 4k if you just go with the F55 internal 4k recording... battery life of the batt's, etc...

So both the DVF-350L and DVF-EL100 finders on B&H, the street prices are exactly 85% of list price.

That's 2% better than history of list vs. street. Terrific news.

If that's the case, I may be onboard for an F5. Before Red's price drop...the F5 was a no brainer...now I'm not so sure.

Red got me with the 4k for $4k so now I have a Red One MX package. All I need for a fully functional Epic kit is the Body/SSD/Side Remote b/c I have all other accessories. So $22k. Roughly the same for F5 + Raw Recorder.

-RED has HDRX, more slow mo options, upgrade to Dragon
-SONY has better dynamic range, flawless reliability (in my experience with EX1 & F3)

For some reason, many clients drool when the word Red is mentioned. I love Sony though...so I'm torn. I guess I'll wait to see what happens when the onslaught of reviews & test videos begin to surface next year!

Maybe you should buy the F5 and then spend $5 on a red sticker to put on the F5. (http://www.red.com/store/products/logo-sticker-3) Best of both worlds. Sticker even has a 5 year warranty!

Official US street prices on cameras:

F5 - $16,490
F55 - $28,990

Ned

Wow... S35mm motion picture film equivalence (F55) without the cost of film stock, for the price of a regular car.

I've said it once, I'll say it again - it's a bloody exciting time to be making pictures for a living!

I've seen the f55 listed at 35 in Australia which is odd considering the value of our dollar at the moment.
Are these prices body only no viewfinder? What will a functioning camera cost less lens and raw recorder?
