Price drop for DVX100a (Profeel)

Re: Price drop for DVX100a (Profeel)

And Panasonic agrees, if a product is sold sealed and new with a US warranty, they will honor that warranty.

The difference comes in that many of the gray-market dealers may be selling cameras that don't have ANY warranty, or a Japanese or Canadian warranty or some other warranty, and that can impose serious hardships on the buyer.

Also, even if you get a unit with a US warranty, there are still options that you would have if you bought from an authorized dealer, that you wouldn't get from an unauthorized dealer.  For example, if your camera showed up defective, you could take it to your authorized dealer and say "give me a new one."  Panasonic could authorize a dealer swap and hand you a brand-new camera.  But if you buy it from a gray-market dealer, you don't have that option.  Your dealer could say "stick it in your ear" and your only recourse is to send it in to Panasonic service, and be without your camera for however long it takes to get it fixed.

Buying from gray-market/unauthorized dealers involves some risk.  The compensation for that risk is that the prices are usually lower.  But there's a reason the prices are lower -- you don't get something for nothing.

I really just wanted to clarify that regardless of what anyone (even Panasonic reps) may say, you do not have to purchase from an authorized dealer to have a warranty -- and anyone saying different is really just blowin’ smoke. Granted, any manufacturer can *choose* whether or not they may feel obliged to honor any warranty under any circumstances, but the warranty laws are clear and if pressed, most reputable manufactures will opt to fix you camera under warranty. But then again, this is why we have courts and attorneys -- To enforce what is right under the law.

BTW - I am in no way recommending you buy from some shady dealer, but if you find a good deal and the dealer is reputable enough in your opinion, buying a camera doesn't have to be different then buying anything else. In this world it has always been "buyer beware"... Even more so in these past few years.

Yes. Agreed. BUT: some of these cameras are reportedly coming with out-of-country warranties, and in that case you can be assured Panasonic USA will not honor it, they will expect you to send it to the country of origin/warranty.

Panasonic USA has always said they will honor a valid USA warranty, but they will not be able to exchange cameras or execute dealer swaps if the unit was bought from a non-authorized dealer.

Re: Price drop for DVX100a (Profeel)

This topic can get a little confusing, as you get pinned between buying from an authorized dealer and saving a few bucks. My opinion, buy from an Authorized dealer. This is an expensive piece of equipment for most people that buy it, and if something goes wrong you will be glad you went the legit route. And ultimately, the difference is usually around $100, about as much as the cheezy Mack warranty you need to by if you dont by authorized.

EVS is obviously my choice, I bought my camera from them because we don't have any good Authorized dealers up here in Canada that I have experienced, and even the Sales team at Panasonic Canada is pretty weak. Panasonic USA has Jan C, probably one of the best Product reps I have dealt with. She knows the product and does her best to answer everyones questions. that kind of support is why I went authorized, As i know if something went wrong I would have no problems getting it fixed by them.

EVS has the best price possible from an authorized dealer, and their service is exceptional, in fact its the best service I have ever had from a retailer. And they don't pay me to say that, in fact they don't pay me at all.

EVS supports the site by coming here (Rush) and directly taking care of members, and offering DVXusers a special DVXuser discount.

I purchased my DVX from Profeel and had great service, brand new product. I would hestitate buying from most grey market dealers but from these guys I can recommend them based on my experience.
