Re: Price drop for DVX100a (Profeel)
And Panasonic agrees, if a product is sold sealed and new with a US warranty, they will honor that warranty.
The difference comes in that many of the gray-market dealers may be selling cameras that don't have ANY warranty, or a Japanese or Canadian warranty or some other warranty, and that can impose serious hardships on the buyer.
Also, even if you get a unit with a US warranty, there are still options that you would have if you bought from an authorized dealer, that you wouldn't get from an unauthorized dealer. For example, if your camera showed up defective, you could take it to your authorized dealer and say "give me a new one." Panasonic could authorize a dealer swap and hand you a brand-new camera. But if you buy it from a gray-market dealer, you don't have that option. Your dealer could say "stick it in your ear" and your only recourse is to send it in to Panasonic service, and be without your camera for however long it takes to get it fixed.
Buying from gray-market/unauthorized dealers involves some risk. The compensation for that risk is that the prices are usually lower. But there's a reason the prices are lower -- you don't get something for nothing.
