Preview monitor question

Ok I never tried this with the HVX 200 before. I'm trying to use the hHVX as a through put for a preview monitor from FCS 6.0.2. Heres my set up:

Media is DVCPRHD / 1080p/30
Media is already on FCS timeline.
I have firewire connected to the HVX from the Mac G5
I have the component output - out from the HVX to my preview monitor.

The preview shows up on the HVX LCD screen but not on the Preview monitor. If I switch to camera mode the preview works fine on the monitor. Also in FCS under : view/video playback- I only get a firewire ntsc option for preview... Should I not see an option for DVDPROHD ? ... Having only used this method for SD I assumed the HVX would work the same way as a through put...

Is it a possibility that I must use a KONA card for this?

Thanks
Nava

Just went through the project setting and selected the playback output to DVCPROHD Firewire setting..... the option comes up (missing) in FCS...

Don't believe you can use the HVX as throughput in the way it was possible to use DV cameras. You could try the Matrox MXO as well as the Kona option you mentioned. Others may have more info on possible alternatives.

dvcprohd does NOT live preview through firewire in fcp. best you will get is a parked playhead frame.

kevin is right. you need an external device like an mxo, v3hd, iohd, intensity card, etc...

the mxo is quite good for the price, but is WAY too convoluted for my taste.

unless you need absolute, industry calibrated, color correct accuracy. i have seen great results connecting a DVI equipped HD projector.

i have an optoma HD72 thats pretty slick - and clients really dig sitting on the sofa and seeing their project at 12'!
