Thanks for the comments guys. It was about a $7,000 budget. It was shot with a set of 4 zeiss primes that we rented on our 7D. It is not a silent film, heh, but we took this route to hopefully have an exciting trailer that doesn't give away the entire story, but leaves you wanting to see what happens. Thanks for the comments thus far though and keep them coming!

Thanks for the feedback! iConquer, the budget went almost entirely to renting lenses, lights, locations, crane/dolly rentals and actors. It was tough to budget, but luckily we had enough people that helped a great deal that we were able to pull it all off.

looks totally cool man. We just picked up a 7d as well. How does it handle light? How many watts does it get "comfortable" at? My redrock needed at least 2k indoors to not show grain. And I am so glad that I decided to build our own dolly(2 man doorway) and Jib(12ft with manual and remote heads), gotta stretch that budget far as you can.

So first of all, I applaud your not wanting to give away the entire story in a trailer. It's a pet peeve of mine that most studio pictures seem to do that, which is why I tend to avoid trailers.

However, I have this fear when it comes to indie films. When I don't hear any actual lines of dialogue in the trailer a flag goes up. It says "uh-oh, there's some bad performances in this". It's a sad fact, but with today's technology you can create a great looking image, but I still think finding quality actors (or directors?) in the independent field is a challenge.

Which is not to say you have bad performances, that's just the flag that goes up. Perhaps if you created a second trailer (as this is more of a teaser even?) you could put a few solid lines of performance.

Overall though I really liked the trailer, I figured it was about zombies (right?). I'd maybe try to find an end shot that sells that just a bit more. I love the zombies in silhouette shot idea, but is there one with them slightly closer to camera? Not up close all "I'll eat your brains"-like, but maybe another 20 feet closer to camera?

Thanks for the further comments, and I will try to answer some of the questions here.

TATmedia, we were able to get relatively noise free images with iso set at around 800 and roughly 600w of light for indoors. These cameras have truly amazing low light sensitivity with fast glass and it really shows once you start shooting with them. That said, we did have a few arri kits rented, so lighting was always very available to us.

Drcheese, thanks for the comments. It really is more of a teaser than a traditional trailer. It is for this reason that we hide some of the best stuff, such as our best zombie shots, etc in the name of hopefully leaving people wanting more. The one thing that we were upset with regarding the teaser was that we really didnt have a chance to showcase the actors within our concept. Luckily, we plan on releasing a follow up in a few weeks that will lend itself to showing off the amazing job our leads brought to the table, all while hopefully still being just coy enough about the plot and characters that it doesn't feel like a summary.

Thanks for the great comments though and I love hearing from people regarding their thoughts!

Hey man, nice. I love a good zombie fick. It probably stems from my deep belief that I'm the only sane intelligent individual in the world, and I'm surrounded by a bunch of mindless idiots that want to kill me. :)

from watching that i had no idea what the film would be about , i did not make a link to zombies so based on that trailer i wouldn't bother to see the film . technically the shots look nice etc , am sure it will be a great project. Have to agree on lack of real audio from the shots being somewhat off putting. good luck with it .
