hey everyone. I'm doing an interior night scene where a man suspects that someone has broken into his apartment late at night. all of the lights will be off, and I will light the scene using diffused 650W fresnels (blue) which will be outside the apartment, shining through the windows/shades. basically, I need a preset that won't crush the large gaps of black that will exist in between the streaks of light that come through the shades of the windows.
if any of you have ever seen the coen bros. film "blood simple", a great reference for what I'm trying to recreate is the scene where m. emmet walsh's character breaks into john getz' character's apartment, steals frances mcdormund's gun from her purse, and is sneaking through the shadowy hallway to the bedroom to murder john getz and frances mcdormund, who are sleeping in his bed.
essentially, I'm trying to light the entire interior scene as if it was only lit by moonlight from the exterior of the apartment, and in doing so, create a pretty dramatic interplay between light and dark. the last thing I want is to shoot it and have the xha1 overcompensate for the black shadows that will be throughout the scene. thanks.
