C200: Premiere slow as a dog with .MP4 & AVCHD files

I've been doing more editing recently and am noticing that Premiere is all sorts of clunky when dealing with my UHD .mp4 and/or AVCHD files when I'm not recording in raw with my C200. A lot of times it won't play back smoothly and takes a very long time to regenerate thumbnails of my clips when I'm viewing them in icon view.

The irony isn't lost on me that for optimal playback I should transcode to Prores which would bloat the file sizes back up near raw file sizes or make proxies for .mp4 files (palm to face). Maybe I should just start shooting everything in raw and stick to the raw/ 1080 proxy workflow that plays very smoothly on my machine?

Anyone else have this problem? I realize it's probably hardware/software influenced, but I have a late 2014 iMac with a 3.5 GHz Intel Core i5, 32GB of memory, and the AMD Radeon R9 M29oX 2048MB graphics card.

See if switching between Metal / OpenCL makes a difference (no option for CUDA ;)). The sound device can also affect performance.

Not sure whats up with your system? I just edited two projects I shot in .MP4 and XF-AVC on my C200 and both are humming along very well in FCP X with my iMac 27" 4.2Ghz. I don't use Premiere, but all of my friends who do have been complaining a lot about performance and stability lately, a few are jumping ship to FCP X and or Resolve.

check your premiere cc version and try updating to latest version or when on latest version revert to an earlier version.
I had this same problem with my editor who is working on a mac and with one of the latest versions it destroyed edit-ability of mp4/xf-avc files on mac systems, reverting back to the earlier version solved it.
Maybe adobe has solved this issue on a newer update?

I'm on pc so don't have this isseu and cant check.
