Premiere Pro + D90 gamma issue

Maybe someone here can help me with this. When I import my D90 footage into Premiere CS3, the blacks are automatically being crushed. I've reviewed the original file played back in QT and in VLC player, it looks fine. I've scowered the web for other people experiencing this problem, thinking it was as simple as adjusting Premieres gamma setting, but I didn't find anything, or any settings in Premiere that allow me to see or change gamma. Here are the two examples.

i had the same problem, it was a codec issue. I think mine was resolved when I used the ace mega codec pack. i talked about it under "i think" thread...also had problems exporting where the blacks were crushed too much too and once I got the right codec, the problem went away.

d90 mjpegs use zero black, like stills, while in video 16 is black. i use the picvideo codec on my windows box and it has a setting called "assume normalized jpeg" or something like that, which needs to be active. similar controls should be in all codecs, else get a new one.

the picvideo codec also does a great job smoothing the blocking, using a supposedly patented algorithm, making it the best codec for the d90 i've tried so far. how on earth did i know when i bought it around 10 years ago... :-)

andrew make sure you ONLY install the codecs, don't install anything else.
I chose morgan, lead and main concept, NOTHING else. make sure everything else is unchecked.

Ok, I ended up going with Picvideo, and it seems to be working well. The videos in Premiere are much closer to the original files. Thanks Matt.

It´s well known that PP has problems with some codecs - the gamma values doens´t fit. A good example is the CanopusHQ as well...
