Premiere Pro 2.0

I'm using AspectHD and it has been a fairly good experience. It basically converts HDV to the cineform propritary codec then uses that as the render engine for PPro providing reasonably good real time performance. This process converts the 25Mb HDV m2t straem to a data rate that is approximately the same as DVCProHD. So I don't think that it will have that much difficulty in converting the HVX files to this format.

As far as capturing DVCProHD over firewire Apple is the best choice [if not the only], however, capturing is only part of it. The Quadro FX540 works for HD output to an HD monitor on the PC but combined with PPro and AspectHD it is quite buggy. I have asked people who have Macs how they monitor HD output in realtime while editing and it appears that the only solution for that is an Aja or Decklink type of video card which make that solution a bit pricey compared to the PC alternative that doesn't quite work yet...Hmmm...

But -- what does this do for you? How does this work? These cards don't support MXF files, right? So maybe you could use one for live streaming and analog capture, but you couldn't use it for recorded footage, could you?

Someone needs to get to the bottom of this, because right now as I see it, Premiere Pro is not gonna work for the HVX, at least not without RayLight.

very good question barry. maybe the third part support needed is just raylight? ..or the matrox AXIO. i dont believe the AJA cards support MXF files as you said.. but they do support hardware playback of DVCPRO HD ect. adobe lists the card as a component in their certified solution for editing compressed HD in realtime . here:

Real-time Compressed HD
  • HP xw9300 Workstation
  • Dual AMD Opteron 252 2.6Ghz - 1Ghz HyperTransport
  • 2GB Dual Channel DDR400 (PC 3200) DRAM
  • System Drive - 7200RPM 80GB SATA 150
  • Video Store - Dual 7200RPM 250GB SATA 150 in RAID 0
  • CineForm Prospect HD Real-Time Editing Software
  • AJA Xena-HS HD-SDI card
  • Pipeline Digital ProVTR Deck Control Software
  • PCI Express NVIDIA® Quadro® FX 1400 128MB video card
  • Flying Cow 24 Bit External Digital Audio Converter
  • Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional SP2
  • Adobe Professional Video Collection
http://www.adobeopenhd.com/certified_solutions/

they also list Prospect Hd on there, so maybe you dont need the card but they just they want you to use prospect HD to convert to the cineform codec to edit in PPRO..? ..rolling eyes.. who knows? on the AJA site they say:

"Users of Premiere Pro 2.0 and the Adobe Production Studio can find built-in native Adobe support for the XENA HS with integrated capture, playback and print to tape of SD-SDI and HD-SDI uncompressed digital audio/video under full control of the software."

whatever that means... I was assuming that the PPRO software would tap into the render engine of the card to support the codec for editing. but.. that doesnt mean that PPRO would support MXF. however. on adobe's site here:

http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/supportedformats.html

they list support for DVCPRO 25/50 and DVCPRO HD / P2 with third party support. .. im assuming that since they say it will support P2 that it has to support MXF since thats really the only file type written to P2 from panasonics cameras. but maybe it doesnt support its contents directly. maybe its some sort of workaround? not sure here, but id like to be asap of course.. right now the "more info" button doesnt do much for me. at any rate it seems from what they say that the support will be there. right now im just waiting to see the price tag, and ease of use factors concerning that yet illusively un-concretely confirmed support.

so i too would like someone to cut a tear through all the fog to see whats going on for this PPRO/hvx thingy. it looks good as far as i can tell right now, .. perhaps pricey though.

From what I can tell is that AspectHD enables you to capture over firewire, ProspectHD enables you to capture using HD-SDI. Does the HVX200 have an SDI out?

Cineform states that they will support the HVX but does not have a date. Cineform is a small company but they say what they mean and do what they say. So I'm confident that they will announce thier intentions soon. I'm sure it will take Adobe a little time to lock their SDK and for Cineform to determine what needs to be done to support the HVX.

Its funny, we are all concerned about editing content from a camera very few of us have. Hopefully this will be a non-issue by the time we start seeing this camera.

From DMN: XENA HS Pricing and Availability
XENA HS is available now through AJA’s worldwide channel of dealers and system integrators for a suggested retail price of US $990.00.

well the new PPRO 2.0 edit software isnt available yet either, but at least we know there will be some sort of way to do what we want. i think theres going to be a few ways.. from clunky to really nice.. cheap to really pricey.

Are you sure that $990.00 is the right price ?

I think it would be sweet to have AE and PPRO all combined in 1 application. I bet that is what it will end up coming to. Just to try to get people away from other NLE's that also still use AE! I would rock it for sure. Im excited about PPRO and AE's new interface, thats the main reason why I am switching!

I'm upgrading to 2.0 today,

my previous setup was 1.5 using AspectHD and capturing HDV from sonys HDR-HC1. I've been very pleased with Cineforms software solution. Besides the price and the fact that it seems Adobe should have this built in, I've been happy.

Here's Cineforms latest:

I'm using aAspectHD as well with the FX-540 component HD output. How are you monitoring HD output?

I also have the HC1 and would be very interested in the native HDV support in PPro 2.0, please let me know which you like better, editing HDV natively or with AspectHD.

Thanks

PPro 2 sure is taking a pounding on the Adobe site.

Someone here want to be the first to try it and let the rest of us know how it works?

looking forward to the feedback from people who get theirs first.

also would love to know when my upgrade version will ship.

i remember that the upgrades took longer to ship last time they updated the video bundle but i can't remember how long it was.

Chuck,

I'm currently capturing from the camera (Yes I know this is not great for the camera, but it is our current setup). This allows me to monitor the footage on the camera screen as I capture into PPro. Then I have a dual monitor display and use one of my ViewSonic monitors to monitor the footage as I edit it. It plays back in Adobe's monitor window. I don't actually have a professional video monitor. I edit content that goes on the internet only.

Yeah, I was reading some of the posts last night. For the most part it seemed that it was either people who were upset because their particular feature didn't make it in the release (yeah, like native DVCpro support! ) or those who hate the new UI but haven't used it yet, or those who are angry about the upgrade bundling.

Fortunately I'm ok but I would probably be upset too to find out that you can't get the new dynamic link stuff without buying or upgrading to the studio bundle. If you just want to upgrade PPro and AE individually, for example, you don't get the new dynamic link functionality. It's not included in the individual product updates. Pretty brain dead on Adobe's part if you ask me. The dynamic link stuff, Bridge I think it's called, is worthless if you don't have at least two of the Adobe programs to link between. Adobe should either make it a free download or include it in every single product that can utilize it.

I've already ordered the upgrade but have no idea when it will ship.

The Dynamic Link and the Bridge are two different things, it's silly that the dynamic link that is mostly sold as a way to use AE compositions in PPRO easily is only included in a bundle that has lots of other software I might not want.

It should be included with the two products that will use it

Yeah, you're right, EShy. It's Dynamic Link that I was thinking of. Bridge is their file management tool. Gee, maybe it's just me but I kinda like the name 'Bridge' in place of 'Dynamic Link'.
Thanks,
Dan

i got email from adobe, my upgrade bundle is in transit and it will get to my house monday.

unfortunatley i'm in florida and will be stuck in key west! :)

i'll have fun playing with the new versions when i get back later this week.
