Preferred firewire cable for firestore?

When I'm shooting with the firestore, I'm finding that the stack of heavy-duty firewire cables that I've been using for static applications are too stiff for use with the HVX-- the darned iLink connector is small enough that it doesn't take much movement around the tripod to cause the cable to dislodge. Is there a preferred vendor of flexible cables for this sort of application? How about an external clip for the back of the camera that will help to create a secure connection?

thanks,

I use, and it has been discussed here many times, a right angled reversed firewire cable. The 4-pin side of the cable is at a right angle so that it points down, along side the HVX's body. Very secure and the cable it's on is very flexable.

"Stack of" cables? It only needs one. No, don't use the really think heavy duty cables, you need the thinner flexible ones. Here's one place to find good cables.

Once I began useing the right angled reversed (reversed means it'll point down, non-reversed will point up and be a PITA) I've never had a FW cable connection problem.

I believe he's indicating that sometimes you use the FS100 with the belt clip, which needs a longer firewire cable, and others time with a jimmybox or equivalent and a need for a shorter cable.

I have three for different situations.

Thank you for the tip about the right angle reverse cable. I'd never seen one before. And yes, I'm shooting documentary work in the field so I have different configurations for using the firestore. It is occasionally mounted on the tripod, but mostly I'm mobile with the FS clipped off on my belt.

I'm doing a majorly large documentary and am finding my FS-100 very flexible. I mostly use a CineSaddle, sometimes a MiniSaddle, occasionally a tripod. Also, the MultiRig Pro which freakin' rocks, a GlideCam 4000, and an EZ FX Jib which I love the hell out of. Wait until the version 3.0 firmware comes out. It'll rock...

I have cables of 1 foot, 3 feet, 6 feet, 10 feet, and 15 feet. You have to be flexible with this sort of tapeless recording. I use the belt clip on my belt, mostly to hang it on one of the loops on the CineSaddle. I use velcro straps on a tripod. Mine have velcro adhered to each leg at the top. I have a bunch of velcro straps, long enough. Got them from a music store, for cable management (computer network hardware dealers sell velcro for cable management, too). Best investment I ever made. I actually just set my FS-100 on a folded up towel in the corner of the pilot's console when shooting on the boat. A ten foot cable runs from there to the HVX.

A tiny bit of imagination, a good dose of common sense, and you can manage one Firewire cable pretty easily.

And the FS-100 is light as a feather, no bulk, yet tough as nails, IMHO.
