Pre Record, time lapse ???

Any one know why the 370 & 300 can make use of Pre record and time lapse only in 1080i when shooting AVC I ? I find this limitation to interlace mode somewhat annoying. After all interlace is the original compression artifact, dating back to the inception of television.....

No, I asked the same thing!
If you have a limitation like that and there's an obvious reason for it then you think OK, fine it's beyond the power of the camera, but something like this doesn't seem to make sense to me.
If it's not just a little glitch or something they've not fully implemented and not bothered with then presumably it must be down to processing power? But how that differs from mode to mode I don't know.
The Varicam shares this issue with Pre Record in that it won't do it in variable frame rate mode! This is disastrous, as if you want to prerecord waiting for a bird to take off from a branch for instance you're always going to want to do it in slomo. You can do it 720/60P but that means conforming afterwards.

I was shooting with the 370 1080 30pn and pre rec was only available in interlace. My B cam was an HPX 170 shooting DVC Pro HD 1080 30pn and I had a user button mapped to pre rec and the 170 would kick into Pre rec with a touch of a button. Not so the 370. Bummer

It definitely makes you think that it's not because it's difficult, it's just not been implemented and could be quite easily if the techs put their mind into a firmware update.
Let's hope they're listening. I did pass on the Varicam pre record issue to Panny and have heard nothing. Still it was only a year ago I suppose!

Can any one from Panasonic weigh in on this issue? I'd love to know why pre rec is only available in Interlace 1080 on the 370???
