Prague - Eyes from the West

Hey all.

In May of 2006, my family and I went on a week long trip to Prague. Reason? Well, my grandmother used to own property there before the war and she wanted to show us her country and where she came from.

I brought along my dvx and glidecam thinking i could somehow document everything i came across. I had a few months practice with the glidecam2000 pro but i figured that if i would be using it 6 days STRAIGHT, recording more than 8 tapes full, i would use it as a glidecam/handycam switching wildly in between the two haha. I guess in some sense it was more of an elaborate home video, which would allow me to revisit anytime i wanted in a more majestic fashion.

So i would love to finally share it with you all. I finally had a chance to get it digitized ( i created this just prior to my computer crashing, hard drives failing, everything gone. So i had to find a program that would take DVD and convert it to AVI - which proved to be very difficult).

the piece is TWENTY-THREE minutes ( 23 ) in duration. I know, long, but the country is so beautiful and i promise it will feel like you are watching somewhat of a low budget TV show lol. So sit back, grab a beer and maybe your favorite snack and give yourself the full time to watch.

I broke it up into three segments for the youtube users, but for those who insist on a higher quality, i have one at a large 209 megs, however the quality really is that much better, and boy are there sights to see.

* Something very interesting was that some of the music used in the video was given to me on the streets of prague by some guy who was passing around CD's. It was full of keltic( is that how it's spelled? ) music that I assume he helped create, but cool!

Haven't you posted these before?

the pictures yes, but never video.
And i posted the pictures again to add to my presentation of the videos.

While others want to visit france and london and spain, I've always wanted to visit Eastern Europe instead. Prague has been the top city that I wanted to visit. So thank you for this. The city looks very old and beautiful. Kind of remind me of Old Montreal at some points, but still has it's own style and culture.

Saw them all. A bit long, but it's more of a home video anyways. For a home video though it's very proffesional... of course.

My fav part is part 3. Love the opening shot, going around the trees, looks like you were about to hit that lady though, lol. But in the middle of part 3, where is that place, of all the bones? What is it? Are those animal bones? Human bones? Are they even real bones? Also the ending, you went to visit a studio? You went on a tour? That's so cool that James Bond was being shot there, lol.

I am going to be teaching in Prague/CR for a week in Aug. I hope to be able to take my wife with me and spend a few extra days. I was not planning on taking the DVX but now I think I may need to. Thanks for the video.

Personally, I'm obsessed with the idea of visiting countries/cities in both Eastern and Western Europe. The lifestyles, cultures, landscapes, architecture, art, etc. are all interesting to me (actually, ALL civilizations are interesting to me.)

This is quite a video, PaPa. Lots of beautiful shots, great atmosphere, and I got this terrific feeling of "discovery" watching this, just as you had probably felt shooting it.

Excellent soundtrack. It made the film even more enjoyable. I often use Sigur Ros. A friend of mine turned me onto them a few years back.

Also, if this is all handheld, or mostly handheld (which I'm willing to bet it is) you have VERY steady hands. Most of the shots were extremely smooth.

hahah, I totally missed the shot of you in the window/mirror with the shelves of flowers. Answers my question about the steady shots.

I'm curious to know who did the song you used after "Petur" by Sigur Ros. All of the celtic-sounding stuff you used was excellent.

yeah, some guy passed around a CD on the streets of prague, and it matched the footage perfectly!

don't skimp out on me dvxusers:P, i've been anticipating showing you all this for such a long time, and this is kinda bogus in terms of quantity of feedback
