Powering DSLR

Hey everybody. I had a question regarding power. Anybody here uses brick batteries like Anton Bauer to power up their Nikon DSLRs? I would like that for 2 reasons. One being that it is a future proof investment. You can attach these batteries to anything from a C100 to a Red Epic. The other being that it will last longer and I dont need to carry 6 or 8 of those Nikon ones. 1 or 2 are going to be sufficient for a whole production day. And they can also power other accessories like monitors. What are your experiences with them and your Nikon DSLRs?

I bought the Lanparte V-mount plate and battery for my Blackmagic pocket cinema camera. Seems to be working well.
I've got the adapter to power my Nikon D600 but I haven't used it yet.

Most DSLR batteries are so butch, I never really think about external power. I have taken an angle grinder and cut access holes in my my base plates though...

You might get more replies in the overall DSLR thread than the Nikon-specific though.

When it comes to powering my D7100 I want to go with a battery grip. I have a few questions though.

1. What third party brands are good? Also I have heard that some third party brands offset the lens from the center. That is not good. Which grips are do not do that other than the original one?
2. I have seen that the grips for D7100 will have one battery in the tray and one in the camera. What good does it do to me? When I need to change batteries, I will have to take off the grip, replace the battery and then re-screw the grip. Too much hassle. Am I missing something?
3. Can I use these type of grips with just one battery (in the grip tray)? But then I am only using one battery. There is no gain in battery power.
4.Is there any grip for D7100 which allows to use two batteries in the tray?

Both Nikon and Canon seem to be updating firmware which has caused some 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] party batteries to not work. I’ve had issues with 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] party grips so I only use Nikon or Canon stuff now. It’s not cheap but…

No you are not missing anything. I don’t know about the grip for the 7100 but I can use the battery from the D4 in my D800 grip with the right tray. I leave the camera body empty and only use the D4 battery which last a long time for me.

Yes you can but you are right, you’ll only have one battery.

4.Is there any grip for D7100 which allows to use two batteries in the tray?
I have not seen any however I don’t know.
