Powerbook Question

I am looking to buy an old 15 or 17 inch Powerbook to utilize the PC card slot.

Is there a minimun processing speed I should take into consideration for offloading P2 cards?

I did do a search and read through about 20 pages of thread and didn't find anything addressing this specifically.

Okay, more specifically, would it be a waste to buy a 15" Powerbook with 550Mhz, 512MB, 20GB?
I mean this seems like nothing of a machine but I only need something to offload P2 cards.
In other threads I found that:
One person said FCP 5.1 requires a min. of 867Mhz....
Another person said they were running 800Mhz and did everything on that and it was absolutely fine, even opening up FCP and running HD footage.

Would 550Mhz be suficient to offload P2 cards?

and beyond that (not at all necassary for me, but curious) would it even run FCP 5.1 to at least preview footage or even direct capture to an external HD??

I think the minimum O.S. you can use is 10.3.9 so I dont think that computer with a 20gb hard drive will work. Check the apple site and see what the requirements are for O.S. 10.3.9.

Okay, so I just opted to get a new Macbook Pro and wait for the Duel Systems adapter to come out. I got tired of shopping for crappy used computers just for the almighty PC Card Slot.... I have to say, I did a shoot the other day and rented a PC Laptop...really love the workflow of popping out a card and popping it right into a laptop. beats tapes!
Can't wait to get the adapter with the new mac.

Watch the graphics display requirements if you're planning to run FCP. P2Log runs on pretty much anything because we don't require the AGP graphics.

Believe me, FCP will run just fine on a Macbook Pro with sufficient RAM. I've been running FCP on this PB 1.5Ghz for 3 years, without a hitch, DV, DVCPRO50, DVCPROHD. Even the Macbook will run FCP, so I don't foresee any problems. The Macbook Pro has a much faster video card, with plenty of VRAM to handle RTExpress.
