Ok so i loaded the contents of the p2 card into a folder in the desk top of my powerbook using p2 genie. I dragged IT into my external hardrive. And after that i went on my G5 to edit the footage. I opened final cut the new version and went into the p2 card import. It doesnt recognize the folder on the desktop. It wont let me import.

what am i doing wrong?

thanks

Did you copy the LASTCLIP file? This is essential. And FInal cut 5 needs to be upgraded to 5.04 to recognize HVX p2.

i did that and i did a little more research. Do i need to be running on MAC 10.4? I am currently running on 10.39.

So i have my folder. Say the missing link is 10.4. Now do i go to import p2 ? will it recognize it after that?

thanks

You definitely need to be running the latest version of OS X 10.4, which is 10.4.7. You then need to install the P2 drivers on your PB. Then, your P2 card will mount as soon as you insert it into the P2 slot. I have found that every so often it takes forever to mount. When that occurs, I restart the PB and it fixes the problem. But you are way behind the curve in software, I'm afraid. You actually should be running FCp 5.1.1 since there have been some bug fixes with rendered footage.

Not entirely True Ned,
Up until today, I have been running OS10.3.9 and FCP 5.0.4 on a G4 PB 1.5ghz. The cards mounted up on the desktop just fine and I could copy them to the internal drive and then open FCP and import the footage and cut it as well, all on the internal 54oorpm drive. :love4:

OZ,

I have no doubt that this will work, just be sure not to upgrade to 5.1 mid project. The bug in 5.0.4 seems to only effect 720pn footage and is only intermitantly a problem in 5.0.4 but rears its ugly head more often when that footage is brought into a 5.1 project. Ned is correct in stating that this problem exists and as a guy facing reimporting 1.5Tb of footage I can assure you it is a real pain. My recommendation would be, if you've already started a project in 5.0.4, stay there. If you are starting a new project, update to 5.1.

Ned, ,me, and a bunch of others are firm believers in running the latest versions of the app and os.

I believe that is the point he is making.
