Poutine

What evil Canadian culinary genius concocted this glorious, artery clogging dish? For the unschooled, it's french fries smothered in gravy and cheese curds.

I'm sure it's going to send me to an early grave. But it's worth it.

I tried it while I was in Toronto.......We shared a small one between 3...in the table just beside us there was a man eating a big one alone....my arteries clogged automatically.....

Ooooooh poutine.

I stayed with fellow DVXUser Adam McKay in Vancouver, and we spent quite a while looking for vegetarian poutine for me to eat. Eventually we had to make it ourselves. It was quite delicious.

Keep in mind it's big greasy french fries. Not that wimpy McD's style stuff.

If you want to get a double wammy of Montreal, be sure to try the Smoke Meat Poutine:

Man this stuff is good. I was raised on it. But I had one yesterday at La Belle Province, and my stomach did not agree. But it was worth it. Where do you live Battuta? In Quebec?

No, Edmonton, so I haven't even had 'the good stuff' yet. Although Costco's poutine is pretty damn delicious if you can believe it.

Yeah, poutine can be found all over Canada.

Funny thing is, I barely ever have it. In fact, It's been years. It's really good tasting stuff though.

Huh, and here I thought ppoutine was just a quebecois thing. Though I shouldn't be surprised that it's caught on elsewhere. This stuff is good.

I remember at a young age going down to the states (I think florida). The closest thing I could find to poutine was fries with nacho sauce on it. Bleh! Wonder if it's caught on outside of Canada at all...

Not sure about the U.S. but it's been around here in Ottawa - Ontario for as long as I can remember. Of course, we are just a skip over the bridge to Hull -Quebec so that could be why. :)

But I have found it out in the east coast of Canada as well. Halifax, P.E.I., New Brunswick, etc...

Question is, how authentic is it to the "real" stuff from Quebec?
