Post Pictures of your AF100 Rig

It's not my monitor, but here's my rig on a recent shoot. I still need to get me a follow focus and matte box.

Here is ours. Kitted up with all the goodies from shoot 35. Had it out for it's first real shoot this week. I hope to have some clips put together once we submit them to the client.

Which shoot35 baseplate is this? I'm jealous you got one of the few shoot35 matte boxes! No new ones till November 2011?!! What?!!!

Obviously everybody's needs are different, and it really depends what type of shooting you do, but I RARELY use my follow focus, and I think I can count on one hand the number of time I've used a mattebox in the last couple years (and since the AF has built in NDs I see fewer reasons to need one). I know all that stuff looks cool, but personally, I find it bulks up the rig and takes more time whenever I have to change lenses.

Wow november 2011. I jumped on the very first shipment of the things in January. They actually sold out while I had the thing in my shopping cart fortunately my box was included in the allotment. I bought the Rod Support System R2 with the tripod clamp and the blade bracket. I plan on using the blade bracket as a lens support. You could get away with just ordering the Rod Support System R2 with no extra pieces and save yourself 50 pounds. It was the fully loaded version and I then had to tweak for an hour or so to get everything to line up. I got a great deal at the time. Right now he has a kit with all you see above plus a focus crank and four gears for 999 pounds. That puts it about $1625 plus shipping. I got out the door for under $1500 but only got one gear and no speed crank. I love the package. I was shooting with it and our HPX this past week for NASA and really enjoyed it. My boss loved the film camera feel of the operations. By the way I just read the website and it says they plan on having stock again in late March. I think he had 2 runs in February.

Just wanted to clarify that Shoot35 orders will be available April 11. They post 11/04/11 as the date but in actuality, it means 4/11/11! I've been shooting emails back and forth with Wayne from shoot35 as I thought the same of November delivery. :)

Rube Goldberg Handheld Rig (Work-in-Progress)

Rube Goldberg Handheld Rig (Work-in-Progress)

Anton Bauer Dionic 90 batt. set to power up camera, radio mics and eventually Cineroid, Nano, litepanel etc. . Rig shoulder balances well but needs a pad. Cineroid cable to d-tap on order.
Aaton handgrip salvaged from my old Aaton LTR7 s16 camera : ) Note AB d-tap 4-way junction box. AB batt lasts 4ever.

I think that takes the cake. I like the idea of shoulder mounting with an EVF like the Cineroid, so that the balance point is the camera and you don't need to make it too much longer. Too bad it's hard to access some of the controls then that are behind the LCD.

I guess you can tell I've got nothing on Rube Goldberg : )

Ben- You are right about the difficulty in accessing the camera controls while shooting on the shoulder; I have already inadvertantly adjusted my audio levels etc. , but I can say that the longer I use the rig, the more familiar I am with the controls so that I can adjust them by touch memory.

Erik - Zacuto makes the red plate upon which the Gold mount is attached

I've run into situations shooting in the desert where I want to shoot Shallow DOF but can't seem to quite get the exposure wide open. If i could drop in an ND with a matte box and perhaps also a POLO i'd be able to achieve almost all my shots.

Here's one configuration of my two AF100s...

Two-AF100s.jpg

For heavy studio work, that's a Letus rails system and Letus adjustable PL adapter with a Zeiss 22-154mm cinema lens, a Redrock mattebox, a Durus follow focus, and a Nanoflash using Olof's Nano bracket and the Swit battery with a Dolgin cable powering both the camera and the Nano.

But man, that's so frickin' heavy, and I just love how lightweight and tossable the AF100 is, so the other unit is shown bare with the mighty Lumix 7-14 lens...

Sick rig. I had Cinevate (we're dealers for them and O'Connor and everyone else) in the shop yesterday and really like the way the Durus feels. Do you get any rotation on the single 15mm mounting point?

Was concerned about that initially, but no, it mounts really really solidly. No issues yet, knock on wood, but I don't expect any either.

Barry, how would you compare the Lumix 7-14 to the Olympus 7-14? Olympus is a bit pricier, but they both seem to have excellent reviews. I'm torn!

Haven't seen the Olympus. I went with the Lumix because I already had the 14-140 and the 20mm, and I wanted to give myself the best shot at being color-matched and compatible across the line; I eventually picked up the 100-300 and the 3D lens as well. I need to be stopped...

I have seen that 3D lens, but have not looked into it. How does it work, and can you use it with the AF100, or only the GH2? I have always been a little interested in it, but thought it was a more gimmicky consumer thing and never looked into it...
