Post on Everyone's Films

You know, acting is so subjective. I can watch one film and think it has brilliant acting, and someone else can watch it and say it has terrible acting. Obviously some people just can't act. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Absolutely true. Even given a hollywood example, some people think Natalie Portman really deserved that Oscar nom for "Closer", but I thought she was just wooden and unbelievable throughout. She's one of those people who just never seems natural to me. On the other hand, *I* like Keanu Reeves, so what do I know? ;)

I will say, acting and seeing other non-actors act really makes me appreciate people who actually can act a lot more. It's a damn sight harder to just act natural than it seems like it should be.

All of these comments are good, and they're all well-received. But take a look at the post counts in the forums. There are still 6 or 7 films with no comments at all, and although I'm trying to get to all of them, I do have a little thing called work taking up my time as well.
Some of them are really good - it's not as though the quality matches the attention paid. I really liked Tipper vs the Red Hornet, and I liked A Brief Case also. Even the ones I didn't like, made me think a bit more critically about my own work, so I wouldn't call any of it wasted time.
So give films and filmmakers a chance - we all know it's hard to make films, but it's pretty easy to watch and comment on them, and it makes a big difference.

Some of the films probably don't have reviews yet, because they came later in the upload cycle. I'm sure in the next day or so everyone will start getting some great comments/critiques - that's how it was for the ZombieFest.

Personally, I have only watched a couple...primarily because I want to make sure the final correctly encoded version is the one I rate/critique before I make comments. I'm also avoiding reading the comments posted in the "individual film" sections until after I post mine, so it is not influenced by others thoughts.

Just my $0.01 9/10

Peace,
Larry

Yeah, mine has been a slow drip... probably because of the glitchy hoopla the first run, but now it's all better.

That or people have other videos they'd prefer to comment on :-D

Hey guys , just my 2 cents here .

Having bought my camera in June last year and this is my 2nd short ,I have MUCH to learn . By hearing from members with their comments or suggestions does help. It really does !!!
Saying someones short Sucks or whatever doesn't help anybody .
I find it hard to critique anyones work ..it is not my nature to do so BUt I am honestly trying to offer my view .
All the comments on my short I believe have been Honest and I appreciate that !! How else can you learn .
I think these FEST are great ..what better way to learn.
No one here went out of their way to make a BAD short.
I won't go on here But to ALL who offer their comments and or suggestions for Beginers and the Experienced..Thanks , they are apprciated!!

Seriously. Telling the guy that did a great job, "hey, you did a great job" for the 195th time isn't helping him, you, or that other guy who really needs to know how to get his film looking and playing better. Instead, spend that time watching and critiquing a film that maybe wasn't as good, and take the time to consider WHY it wasn't as good. That way, even those who don't win get to take away something useful from the fest - and that's what communities are for, after all.
Big ups to all the FESTers, especially those who are walking away empty-handed. Kudos, brothers.

agreed, I would love for some comments on my own film. I am a student film maker and probably way out of my league, but it feels good when people give you constuctive critisicim. It helps you to grow as a filmmaker.

i think it´s even more important to comment on the films you don´t like, because the thought process of what the filmmaker should have done differently helps him to get better and finetune your own skills, as you just remind yourself of what mistakes you must avoid...

Hey, I just thought this was an important idea that should be moved back to the top of the list.

There are some flicks here, some pretty good ones, that only have a handful of responses. Come on, guys! :)
