Post Apocalyptic Western: Short Film

Michael Anthony Horrigan

More Cowbell Pictures
Hey, guys. I'm making a post apocalyptic western for WestFest.

WATCH IT HERE! http://www.dvxfest.com/mirror/west2010/entries/Hostile_Destination-Michael_Anthony_Horrigan.mov

Since I'm shooting it on my new Canon T2i I figured that I should share some grabs with the gang here and keep you up to date on how it's going.

These shots have been cropped and CC'd for the look I'm going for. Maybe a bit too much in both departments but it's getting there.

If you guys have any questions just shoot.

Just cropped them, nothing else. Not sure if I'll use all of them but I'll see how the edit flows.

Thanks! What you see is what you get. :)
You can see the lights used in the first grab. The hanging 60 watt bulb, the light behind him and the light from the laptop and TV is all I used.

CC'd with Premiere Pro CS3 > RGB Curves > RGB Colour Corrector. Then placed a duplicate B&W clip on top and cut the opacity to 50% to wash out the colour.

Still playing with it though.

Thanks,

MAH

Nice grabs. I like how the dimly lit areas in all that darkness are still clean and sharp looking. Trying to get something like that on my old HV20 would have produced a great deal more noise.

Update: Here's a grab from another location I'm hoping to score.

I'm also going to re-post a few grabs with less crush. I feel like I lost too much detail in the grabs posted previously.
I'll do a few side by side comparisons later and maybe a few of you can offer your opinions.

Thanks,

Mike

Thoughts? Subtle, I know.

I backed off on the crush in the second shot of each comparison. You can see things just a little more clearly. Like the dust on top of the TV monitor for example.

For those who would like to help, please let me know which shot you prefer in each set and what shows up better on your display. #1 or #2?

It looks different on my laptop versus my Mac.

Thanks,

MAH

I think the lighter look looks great. Still nice and contrasty, but more detail visible.

What was your picture style settings?
