General Possible T3i announcement in February... blegh

http://www.canonrumors.com/2011/01/more-5d-mark-iii-1d-mark-v-lenses-cr2

I could understand trying to update/replace the low end XS market but ALREADY trying to replace the T2i?!
Whyyyyyyyyyy?!?! It duhn' make any sense! I could see this easily taking away from the 60D. How many cameras can you release in a two year time period before you start shooting yourself in the foot?

I guess since it hasn't been officially announced I might be jumping the judgment gun but I thought I'd throw my thoughts out there for what it's worth.

Canon tends to update their low end DSLRs in the 1 - 1.5 year range. Higher tier cameras are updated less often.
As to why, that's just how the game is played.

Yeah, I've read that rumor and more on CanonRumors. Thing is, at this point, it is a rumor. As such, this thread probably belongs in a DSLR forum. The News forum should be preserved for actual news. My .02¢

It would never have more features than 550D + MLantern so ... if sensor will get bigger on rebels or video will be aliasing free then maybe.
Canon really should unlock all ISO and shutter speeds for full manual, come on ,why not? MAnual mode is still half automated.

I'm not surprised, they update their rebel series every year... Oh well, as an amateur/hobbyist, I'm still plenty happy with my T2i.

Don't know what they could improve on except to announce they were hiring Alex at a large salary and get rid of the rest of their staff.
They could improve the codec but they won't start that on a Rebel. Maybe make the viewfinder orientable. But then we'd need to wait for a whole new ML.

So far the only nut ML has left to crack is audio monitoring not disabling HDMI output. Aside from that he has made this the most operator friendly of all the DSLR's - who'd have guessed that?

These Canon rumours indicate Digic 4 will continue with the new Rebel; Digic 5 held over for more expensive DSLRs. Shame...but understandable.

If the t3i is better and cost the same why would it bother you? T2i is basically going to be a year old camera, if Canon has found a way to make it better than that's excellent news. Technology will never stop, it's a good thing! I'm 100% for the new T3i if it's true.

I remember the T2i was announced around December/January of 2009/2010 if I am not mistaken. How old was the T1i at the time? Does anyone know?

I don't consider the incremental upgrades from T2i to 60D or T2i to T3i as applicable for present T2i users. Its for brand new users who are buying their first cam. They should buy the T3i or 60D. An upgrade with a swivel screen does not warrant spending another $1K. A new sensor and body is a real upgrade. The 5DMkIII is the only cam worth looking forward to imo. We could also just get more lenses. The T2i/ML combo is amazing.

In all honesty though, if someone can sell their T2i for a hefty chunk, I'd say the 60D is a worthy upgrade (if someone doesn't want to do the hacking route on the T2i). There's tons of features in it that simply make the money more worthwhile and for the exact same price, these features could make someone's film a bit more possible depending on the shoot. At least for me, the 60D has every single feature that I wish the T2i had, even down to how the battery door opens - every time I watch a new 60D review, I discover something the camera has that makes my T2i feel like a big waste of money. So it really effects how worthwhile I feel like my camera is, and with that, it effects how much I want to use it for my creativity. On top of that, the T2i came with the 18-55mm, which is a good quality lens but is also a waste compared to the 18-135mm or 18-200mm, which I've been dying to have, nor do I have a prime lens I really enjoy (I'd love to have at least a 1.4), and overall, the honest truth is that I really do not like the T2i or the lenses I have with it. Huge, huge creative impact, and if I'd have waited a couple months, I'd have bought the 60D and 135mm kit - I'd have had everything I dreamed of in a camera package - but of coarse, I had no clue about the 60D back in July.

You will not spend a $1k for a 60d if you sold your t2i. When 60d came out I sold my T2i and paid a $300 price difference for the 60d, it was well worth it just for the swivel screen alone.

On top of that a better build, longer lasting batteries, no overheating, manual white balance temperatures, a balance meter that tells you when your camera is level, better photography camera, etc. etc. and all of this for only $300 more.

Yes the image quality is basically the same, but the 60d just feels more professional than the t2i. Finally I would NEVER hack a camera and use it professional, because your just asking for something bad to happen. If Canon did not make it like this, that I would never mess with it.

The last thing I will agree with you is the new 5D Mark III will be a camera that's going to shock the world, BUT we all know the price range will be well over $2500+

If it had a longer shooting time, I hate this 4gig limit crap. Or if it were mirrorless, which I have a feeling they will all be in the very near future. or if they fix the moire, aliasing. But other than that, why bother?? The t2i is a godsend. It's changed the way millions shoot video.

Maran: They will not make it mirrorless. the T2i is a DSLR, without the mirror is no longer becomes a DSLR, and they cannot have an optical viewfinder, which is one of the reasons it's so great. and electronic viewfinder is not as good at this point (but they are getting better)

the 4gig limit is not a canon limit (Technically). it is a format limit. The cards are formated Fat32, which have a 4Gig limit for file size.

Fixing Moire, Jello etc. would be awesome though. but you have to remember: These are photography camera's, with video functions put in. the video end of these camera's is very low on the priority list.

$300 is what it cost me to sell my 550D and buy a 60D. Well worth it for all the above reasons.

Exactly, I'm a guy who goes to work telling first time users what they should buy. The price gap between the T2i and 60D is already really small (300 bucks give or take) if they release a cam that's much more expensive than the T2i then I doubt it will sell well because I'll just tell people to spend the extra cash and get all the great features and image control the 60D offers over "entry-level" cameras.

The only way I see this working is if they discontinue the XS, (please god I'm tired of seeing that thing) put the T1i in it's price point and follow suit with the T2i making it like 600 - 700 bucks for the kit (which would rockkkkk). Canon will start raping Nikon in entry level sales once again...

Also, T3i will have the same sensor and processor as the rest of em, there won't be any improvements in quality.
