Possible Problem? Pulsating image when hooked up to a computer

Hi all,

I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced the following; I’ve hooked up an A1 to my computer and put it into record mode, opened up FCP, Log and Capture window to view only and noticed that the image is kind of pulsating, albeit it’s not pulsating on the cameras LCD or viewfinder; however if I record to tape, capture into FCP and play it back the pulsating isn’t evident anymore. Is this normal?

Thanks in advance

Are you capturing into your computer into the same partition as your operating system? If so then that may be the case. It is best to input your footage into another partition or hard drive.

It might be the image stablizer and processing that you're seeing in the live signal. Do you have Instant AF on too?

I’m capturing to a completely different hard drive, nevertheless I get the pulsating by just opening and viewing the live feed, i.e. not actually capturing.

I tried it with Instant AF turned off but to no avail.

I’ve also tried it in HD, both 25F and 50i modes and it still has the same pulsating issue, However it appears to NOT have this issue in all the SD modes, 25F, 50i etc…

Thanks for your help so far.

i think it has something to do with a phase between the refresh rate of your monitor and the frame rate of the preview that's happening. that's my theory. my previous theory was mpeg-2 artifacting.
