Position of microphone and light on a rig

I've just got myself a DV Multi Rig for my XHA1 and I'm able attach items such as microphones and lights to the rig.

If I want to use both a shotgun microphone and camera light what's the best position for them both?

• The light fixed to the top of the camera in line with the lens with the microphone on the rig.
• The microphone fixed on the top of the camera in line with the lens with the light on the rig.
• Or another combination.

Your thoughts please.

Personally, I'd put the light centered on the camera, so that light is even on a subject. Turning it a foot off center onto the rig could create more depth, but considering you may never know where you subjects will be, it might just light incorrectly.

The shotgun mic can go where ever it wants, though, and still perform just as well.
