Hmm, it seems later in the summer works better for people.

So Patrick, what is there to be skeptical about on Red? Maybe a year ago, but after the Peter Jackson movie and review and the working models they had at NAB?
 
Maybe skeptical isn't the right word, just umm.....I guess I can't really get excited until I actually have my eye to the viewfinder on one in a real world situation.....I also don't think it's going to kill film, I just think it's going to kill a lot of the high end high def cameras out there.......I think it's going to be really cool though, but I don't think I'll get excited until I actually get to use one, because until that point it's just another untouchable format, like 35mm or something....
 
I keep waiting for Red to be released to schedule this and Red keeps getting delayed. However, Rebecca is holding a last-minute DVXUser barbque (an out of town DVXUser is visiting) this Friday night!. So PM me for the details!
 
Yeah .... so nearly a year after this thread's posted I trip across it, lol.

Did that DVXuser meeting ever form? Anyone still wanting to attend one eventually?

Is there a Portland, Ore DVX 100B User group? How do I sign up? Maybe we coulld help each other with multi-camera shoots. Any info about local meeting would be helpful.

We need to make this meeting happen. Kelly's Olympian downtown has a new venue with a big screen. It's pretty cool really. I say we reserve a night there soon. Any interest? If so I'll contact the guy in charge and we'll just do this.
 
Lol, sounds like a good idea, Luke. I think everyone's waiting for someone else to pull the trigger (myself included), so if the date's set, they will come. :)
 
Just to let you guys know, I've been playing phone tag with the guy from Kelly's Olympian. As soon as I talk to him, I'll schedule it. Hopefully he'll call me back today. We're gonna do this.
 
Okay, so still no reply but I got on Kelly's web page and it says that the day after tomorrow is the PDX filmakers showcase. Last month they showed like 8 shorts. It doesn't list a time but last month it was at 8:00. I'm thinking we should just meet then and then if we want to branch out into our own cool guys club, we can do that. So is anybody interested in Tuesday night? We can all wear red shirts or something to recognize each other.

Luke, thanks for your efforts. I really dropped the ball on this one. However, I don't think the "pick a time" thing is going to work. I think all the PDX DVXUsers should be messaged/email with some possible times, of which are all either Friday or Saturday nights. The reason for that being the group is rather spread out. Then find one that works for the majority of people. DowntownBrown has repeatedly (and graciously) offered me use of his studio to host the event. I need to make it down there and scope it out.
 
Yes true Shawn. That and it can't be such short notice - a date at least a few weeks out. I can't do this Tuesday, heck I can't do a single night the next two weeks my schedule is already full. How about some dates a month from now??
 
Okay so Tuesday is out. Is there a way to search for PDX DVXuser's? If so, I'll start the email. Unless you want to, I'm not looking to step on anyone's toes. I do think that scheduling it too far in advance is part of the problem though.
 
I'd imagine setting it at least 2-3 weeks out should work for most. There's no way that 100% of the people would be able to make it anyway.

Setting it out, say three weeks in advance, and giving two dates to choose from (i.e. Tuesday and a Friday) should be enough choices, without spreading the options too thin.

I disagree with only weekend nights being ideal, but that's just me. My wife would have ZERO desire to attend one, and I hate to give up a date night with her to just hang with a bunch of guys (no offense), so a weeknight would be more ideal, but I could easily be the minority on that.
