PORTFOLIO REEL: Everything and the kitchen sink...

So, yeah. "Donde esta el bano?" means "where is the bathroom?" in Spanish. I just learned that a while back. I'm very proud of myself. Has nothing to do with this, but I thought it was interesting.

Anyways, here's my portfolio reel! I'm concentrating on directing, cinematography, and editing... aand had a lot of fun putting this togather. What do y'all think? Critiques? Comments?

I liked the hair spray shot and the guy falling while the camera tracked backwards past the stairs. making the dogs tail wag made the animation so much more real for me. I hope to get a portfoloi like that when I go to school. How are people supposed to know about your story telling abilities, and you directing skills by seing random clips? Any way they are very cool clips. The music seems very "Portfolio reel" to me. Give them some music that is unique to match your footage of cars flying through the air and people floating. Bueno suerte - good luck

That was fun to watch - you can really create a spectacle! The flipping car sequence was great - somehow I have a feeling that was simply a masterpiece of tricky editing using closeup models - nice, I'm ripping that off ASAP. What happened next by the way?

I really dug the timing of the first five clips, don't touch those..

You could get ruthless on the near ending of that and cut out some clips and have a slightly stronger tighter reel... it just barely topped my capacity for "alot of stuff to take in",

You have so many clasic things in there .. why not just cut an 'all classics' 'all killer no filler' version just for fun? You might like that better.

Nice. Very nice. I have to agree with the rest... the effects are REALLY good. I don't need explanations on all, just programs involved please. After Effects, I presume??

Agree with Bennett above me, grab the best badass clips, and throw them together just to see what happens. I'd love to see it, and it wouldn't take long at all.

peace

Wow, that is amazing. It really makes an impact having a demo reel of that calibre. All the best to you in the future.

Wow- thanks guys. Seriously.

Matthew- you're right on, the car was a model, about 6 inches long. I duct-taped the underside of it to a ruler and flipped it in front of the camera forced-perspective, over and over till the timing felt right/ my arm fell off.

Program-wise, mostly I just use Final Cut Pro and Photoshop. I know there are probably better programs out there to do the job, but I get by taking the long way 'round with those two. Anything that involves wire/hand/ruler removal I end up exporting as a series of JPEGs, and painting out the offending object frame-by-frame in Photoshop. That's how the penny, the car and the speeder were done. The claymation was shot on a my digital still camera, the JPEGs imported into FCP and played as a movie.

Again, thanks! I like the idea of cutting a tighter version... I'll have to toy around with that.

Oh, here's the full car movie:

Fukk! photoshop every frame!!?? now that's ambition, and commitment. Well, it works, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

What school do you go to? Do they teach you stuff like the special effects or have you learned it all your self.
can you post a link to the movie about floating. Or anything eles you got.

Ha.. I just watched the full vers... the very last frame of the last shot is so great. What's behind those bushes to make the car jump up like that, a giant spring or something?

Good camera work and color timing too.
