Poor performance from Varicam LT at ISO 5000 using AVC Intra-LT codec

I'm in the same camp as you. I really like the texture of 5000ISO. It's like having two film stocks in one camera. I'm still learning the imaging capabilities of the LT, but so far I feel that even higher ISO could have practical use (with and without NR).

While we are on the subject of 5000 ISO and gaining down, I found a scene from Master of None that feel like they were gained up.

Grabs are from Master of None, Ep.5 at around 8:00 in.

I haven't yet trained my eye to identify the grain textures at the different ISOs, but these clips feel pretty close to what I was getting during my first test at 12800ISO without NR. Maybe others with more experience at higher ISO would support my hypothesis.

Pretty sure there are some issues with the avc-intra LT codec. I've had a similar experience to the Master of None shots above. Footage recorded was riddled with noise despite looking great on set and gaining down from 5000iso to around 1600.
 
Not that it makes any difference, but Master of None is shot with Varicam 35 cameras instead of LTs. ( definitely looks like some NR would have helped this practical night footage )
 
v35 footage and lt footage at the same codec and resolution are the same arent they?
the lt can produce images like the ones i posted from master of none. the ones in this link probably had lower light levels and less noise.

also regarding hudbl

i think your underexposing your image.

i shoot 5000iso all the time never had this problem.
