pointing camera towards the sun

I need to shoot a time lapse sunrise and sunset. I remember in the old days it wasn’t safe to point your tube camera towards the sun. With the Canon XHA1 I thought it would be ok… is it?

Warning, this is only from my experience.

It's ok if you shoot towards the sun but not if you zoom into it so that it covers most of the frame. You see time laps footage all the time with the sun in it, I did the same thing a few times and no issues.

You should be fine, as the issue with tubes was burning them, so as there are no tubes there should be no problems...
