Podcasters prepare to launch video era

"Producing interesting video content is really hard," he told Reuters.

Success will depend largely on programmers' resources and ability to grasp the complexities of a medium that is much more complicated than audio, Ali said."

Ain't that the truth. We are going to see alot of "talking heads" video on the little gizmo.

m4v, H264. Basically, you have to export using quicktime pro...

-Thanks matt, so maybe not. ^

I just have to say the time to export an ipod movie is not all that great, and the quality really left me thinking... Let's see if there are enough creative minds to make this work...

I'm more excited about iTunes being video-capable than the iPod itself. Now you have the ability to podcast video straight to the player. That has to be a good thing, right?

That's what I thought, but the quality is not up to the task, in my opinion. And we have a problem with the player. Itunes is still a lame video player.

Yeah it is a bit sluggish. But it's a start. iTunes is a little bit more responsive if you switch to list view instead of the super-slick thumbnail view. People can always use the quicktime player after they dl the video, i suppose. Trying to remain optimistic.

how is it sluggish? i haven't had any problems with it being slow, have others? I don't think I'll be buying videos too much. But I like the idea of showing stuff i make in a very portable fashion to others.

I purchased an episode of LOST to see how it would work and it was great. But I'm no fan of television shows, so I won't be buying anymore.

Given that I'm a documentary buff, I might consdier buying pbs or national geographic documenataires if they are ever available.

I won't be buying a new ipod any time soon. But when the time comes, I'll be happy with what it could do. I paid $500 for mine and now I could get 20 gigs more with photo and video for $100 less.

I would also definately subscribe to video podcasts.

First of all, the video preview window is square, and not 4x3, and try to change that! And the crop bars could be black or white, depending on the mood of your mac.

Video is previewed in the same box as the cover art, and oh, did I mention it's square?

The video box is in the lower left corner of the main window, and try to change that!

If you want to see your videos in full size (wich is not all that much) you have to:

1) Open them in a new window (that dissapears as soon as you select a different track)
2) Sacrifice half your main window size aumenting the whole playlist column width.

So, a new window? Wow, that is great. I bet quicktime users can't do THAT!

Yeah, I find it sub par, regarding apple's other software products.

Video Podcast--

This is an awesome new venture to tamper with! I've been publishing Podcasts on my site for a couple of months and I always hated the raido format. Not really into it. NOw we can have mini TV-shows and lots more! I've place all of my trailers and even home videos on Podcasting Video and they look amazing!! Can't wait what else will come next!

Ps. Also agree, iTunes is not sluggish, your connection might be a problem with that.

I have not been all that impressed, so far with paying for music videos or TV re-runs, but this has me thinking about the possiblitiies of portable video, which may or may not be iTunes/iPod.

How about this. Imagine having at your finger tips "How to" videos about filmmaking, Imagine 150 hours of video on composition, exposure, lighting, filters, camera movement, depth of field calculations, ect, ect, all on a portable video player that is always available.

Imagine taking this concept to other fields. Instead of a handbook, you have a portable video player with exact step by step instructions for everything you need to know. That is powerful. Imagine the reward to anyone who could sell this and produce it. $$$$$.

This video iPod may be on to something.

I take it HandBrake isn't available for the PC...

I'm curious... do there seem to be a higher concentration of XL2 owners that use Macs and DVX owners that use PCs? I just thought about it and that's the case for everyone I know who has one of the respective cameras. Obviously that's a gross overjudgement to put on an entire population, but I'm curious to see how that holds up on here. There's certainly a noticable higher concentration of Vegas users on these forums than other places...

Yeah, because most the mods use vegas and spread the word. Good thing though, because Vegas is a kickass app, and very cost-effective.

I'm a DVX/Mac.

How is it for playing video from a camera and such? Can it be a portable HDD? Video out? Video in? I've got QT Pro for PC and Mac already, no need to worry about that. Obviously it won't look as nice as playing videos on a PSP but I can live with a small viewing screen.

Ok, so can video be rendered to run on it just to show progress shots to people or something? Like, say I'm on a shoot in L.A. and my main base of operations is Las Vegas, could I shoot my movie in L.A., render the progress footage in Quicktime/h.264 or whatever it is, and show my financers or whatever in Las Vegas what I've been shooting?

Also, can it be an external HDD to at least transport video files from a laptop or something?
