Pmw F5 & F55

You'd stick a kitted out F55 on front of a fast moving car? The 1DC will find it's niche. The C300 already has, although it will probably need a price drop to stay relevent.

Wanted to say this last night, that while everyone is poking at RED for dropping their price for whatever reason... at least they're dropping it.

Expecting a price drop of the C300, a Canon camera, I can think of a few words to use for that an none of them would be positive sounding. lol

In Canon's defense, I suppose they do give you a three thousand dollar credit toward a C500 if you're coming from a C300.

Interesting to see the XLR module on the right side but where are the audio controls? Not on the right side I hope.
Does it matter much? Set to unity gain/line in and feed audio from the audio rig. I highly doubt built in audio is hot commodity on a camera that will be used in dual system audio set-ups 98% of the time.

With the F5 sharing the sensor with the FS700 will it be able to keep up with the F3 sensor? F3 looks much better than the FS700 or will this be down to signal processing?

Where did you read the F5 shares the same sensor as the FS700?

Just checking.

Remember the FS100 has the same sensor as the F3, so yeah it's all about processing. What I want to know is if the raw from the FS700 matches the raw you get from the F5...

Canon is the one who looses the most on these new Sony cameras. I had the C300 in mind but felt I got way more camera in the F3 and if that 15K price for the F5 will go to the street then I see no room for either C300 or C500.

Canon has all the EOS lens fans going for them, so features or price don't necessarily all matter.

Any indication if these new F's will control EOS lenses or still require Birger, MTF, etc.. etc..

Actually, at just 4lbs for the body, sticking these cameras in difficult places is going to be easier than ever before. The light weight is a big selling point I reckon.

I use Canon lenses on the F3 for now but regardless of how much I like them I wouldn't buy a Canon videocamera with the pricing they have.

It's the same mount as the F3 so the MTF adapters works. I think it's a killer feature just that mount with the short flange. It's also a very robust mount.

Wow, 4lbs? The 1DX weighs 3.4lbs.... Yeah big difference. Lens choice will easily blur the line there.

Edit: Holy sh!t, just under $25,000? I was already thinking "if they do this for under 30 I'm so buying",' how wrong was I!

The F5 price is in line with what I was hearing, but the F55 seems way to cheap. The global shutter alone would cost more than that price difference. Who knows though, lets see how aggressive Sony wants to be. I also heard that the pricing was due to be announced this morning but was held back because of the Red Epic price drop.

Neither of those prices make sense. F3 is still listed as the low end part of their cinealta lineup, so F5 has to be significantly more or F3 suddenly becomes worthless.

I think the impossibly low F55 price listed there indicates that that vendor just made up prices to get people interested, look for them to adjust when actual pricing is announced...

If it was a physical rotating mirror like Alexa studio, F65 or Aaton delta, then yeah, but it's electronic meaning that the sensor itself reads out the data at once like on CCD cameras. I don't want to know how they pulled that off.
