PMW-F3 Firmware V1.1

I used Hoodman CF cards ALL the time with no problem. If you use fast enough, brand name cards, I don't see it as a cheat or short-changing my client. It's just another type of media.
But some people choose only to use OEM parts on their cars too.

CF cards? Or SDHC?

As I said, if you've tested the performance of the media, that's one thing.

to be quite clear, even after "battle testing" SDHC cards with my F3 and using them in all the proper ways... I shipped out to Africa and shot half way through the feature with no problems, then one day out of no where the cards just wouldn't work.

There is no guarantee that they will work over time, no matter what brand. These were the most expensive and top of the line cards. There was no reason to their failure, we tested every single thing possible. IMO SDHC cards will fail with the F3 as a matter of WHEN no IF.

Its just not reliable enough, even with all the testings we did with the cards, verifying, everything, they worked perfect for a month, then just didnt wanna work any more.

SDHC for F3 is a nono.

Exactly why I use real SxS cards... failure is not an option.

Obviously, at some point even the SxS cards could fail, but they're engineered against it, and they offer error correction, which the SDHC cards don't.

GP, to be fair I had 10 cameras fail during one trip to Kenya (we were in an open top jeep on dirt roads for two weeks). The heat, humidity, dust, smoke, bugts, grit, etc can be really something else and urbanites have to adjust.

It may have had nothing to do with SDHC other than dirty contacts, or even that a bug crawled in there. Shoot, dry a shirt outdoors there and if you put it on without ironing it you'll have larva crawling out of your skin.

That being said, in a mission critical situation the best practice IMHO is dual recording to an exterior recorder (for example when you only have one camera). That and bring back up batteries, back up media, back up cables, etc.

Adapters, not the cards, will get fried if you eject them while the camera is still recording to the card/adapter combo. Just so you know.

any one know how to get the 1.1 update. the f3 we got today doesn't the update and the link here has beed down for the last couple of days.
