I use CS4 but just tried a test with CS3 and they import normally on an HDV 1080p project & timeline.
The trouble will be in playing them smoothly and editing.
Many editors convert files with Avid DNxHD codec using Streamclip. The programs are both free to download and easy to convert, but beware that your Canon H-264 files will grow 4 times in data size and the color / contrast will shift considerably. (almost correctable, but not the same as the camera original files) The closest formula would be +5 brightness / +15 contrast / +5 chroma to get you in the ballpark. This is what I found and It was more trouble than it was worth so I pre-edit what I need and convert to Uncompressed 10 bit mov. Although a clone of the original shot, it grows 30x in data , but 100% what I need.




CS5 will solve the problem with a faster computer if you have the money, If not then converting the files via DNxHD will get you on the road sooner and you will be the only one who will see any difference in your shots.

So is there any free PC option for easy editing in PP without skewing the color/contrast and that isn't 170MBps? I need to get this workflow figured out, and it seems like I'm stuck at every turn for some reason...
