i have an hvx200 and final cut...what are the best plug ins (filters, transitions, etc) for final cut, i am willing to invest alot of money...thanks

Best really doesn't mean anything if you have no use for them.
I mean I could say filter x is the best cause I use it all the time for this. But what if you don't have a use for that? Are you going to spend allot of money because someone says it's the best?

It's like saying what's the best car? Maybe I say Ferrari and we find out that you want to do off roading. Well, then it's really not the best for that then is it?

The question is easier to answer if you ask, this is what I want to do. What are the best plugins that can make that easier for me?

.....Soarprod, do you use any of these tools or was it just a courtesy link? Just curious...

Nattress is well worth owning. Real good and inexpensive. Magic Bullet Editors 2 is good as well. For transitions I would recommend the CGM collection.

But really you buy for what you need. There are some good free plugns available if you search about.

Again, the question is what you need. The Fx Factory plug-ins were just released for FCP and Motion. They have some very cool effects and transitions and, as Fx plugs, they render through the graphics card for very fast rendering. You need FCP 5.1.2. The "best" plug-ins for a wide range of effects-- particularly lighting effects-- is Sapphire. You can buy the Sapphire plug-ins either as the entire collection (around $1800) or in components. As far as an all-around collection, few things beat Boris Continuum Complete. I believe the question really needs to be phrased as: "I want to do the following or create the following effects. How best can it be done-- with FCP, plug-ins or perhaps some other application."

Yeah, I use the 55mm plugins - they have some cool effects. Very tweakable but the interface in fcp could be better than the inline filters page - download the demo and try it out. The softening effects are sweet.

cross dissolve

it's included

I have reviewed most, if not all, of the plug-ins on www.lafcupg.org or www.kenstone.net. You might also want to check out Kevin Monahan's terrific book on Motion Graphics and Effects in Final Cut Pro (shameless plug-- I was the technical editor). You would be amazed at what you can do just within FCP without any 3rd party plug ins.
