Please recommend a slider/glider for GH1

I bought this and am very dissappointed with the bearings. The rails are fantastic but there is no way to get a smooth slow slide. I even shot them with some silicon lube but they are still rough. I don't think the bearings are built with lubrication. The are very tiny, about ten in two tracks inside each bearing housing. They appear to be just sitting in a line together in a track with no lube. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

You need to adjust them using small hex tool. Each housing has two adjusting screws.

You know... not to beat a dead horse...but I really did spend a good 3-4 months researching & trying countless linear motion companies products before realizing that for the quality, easy of use, smoothness and cost, you can not beat the igus/Zaza product.

That EZ Slider... it's just PBC Redi Rail and a direct rip-off of the DP Slider...and WAY over priced. My goal was to bring a professional slider to the low-to-no budget indie filmmakers out there like myself.

...and best of all, my friends at igus just helped me save some costs....so I was able to lower my prices even more!

Whatever slider you buy, enjoy!
Happy Sliding,
-Zaza

Cheap skateboard works good if you run it vertically up a smooth wall with camera attached or round power pole etc. Nice crane effect.

I have to agree with zaza, his igus thread is one of the best here, full with info and tested results. Nothing beats the igus system for value/price relation so far. I saw igus now offers a sled with a wheel inside each pillow block now. zaza have you tested these yet?

Yes.. about a year ago when they first came out.....it's somewhere in the 3000+ posts in the slider thread.
The wheels ride on the side of the rail and are designed for big, sliding doors, they do nothing for our use.

OK, I have tried adjusting the hex screws so they were tight, medium and completely loose and even in between.
First: They make a lot of noise.
Two: They make a lot of vibration.
Three: They tend to grab or break at the track a slow speeds.

Skate wheels would be smooth by comparison.
Are there MORE EXPENSIVE and HIGHER QUALITY bearings available.
These linear bearings are like driving a wood wheeled wagon on a gravel road.
I need a lexus on the Autobahn. Removing the plastic/rubber looking bearing inserts and replacing them with teflon was a thought. Again, I LOVE the rails - HATE the bearings. Ideas?

I removed the linear bearings from each of the four housings with a small screw driver (crappy bearings made for noisy unsmooth moves) and replaced them with two small strips of adhesive backed felt in each bearing housing ( I guess I should call it the felt housing). I had to buy a retaining ring puller and I degreased the housings before sticking in the felt.
The results are very, very smooth.

I do not agree about crappy bearings.
They must be properly adjusted.
Old lube must be removed if it prevents smooth moving.
Also note that they contain small rubber rings for dust and old lube removing. They can also affect perfomance.
But main thing is proper adjustment as you need to make three points of contact (one is fixed and top and left you can adjust).

About noise. They'll be, of course, much noiser compared to ZaZa slider.
But if properly adjusted and used at normal speed hoise is acceptable.

I think that they add this bearings from different actual manufacturers and completely unadjusted with cheapest (for rust protection only) lube.

Of course, we must search for better options.

Or just use the tried and tested Zaza/ Igus 16/60 slider.

What's your objection to it Vitaliy? Do you not like this slider for some reason?

Hi guys, if you are looking for a DIY option, we wouldn't be the solution, however we developed a very high quality Patent Pending slider called the cineGLIDE system by cineZEN USA which is available for pre-order now and in production.

The difference in our slider system, while a bit more expensive than some others mentioned here, is still very affordable for the technology and it is capable of quite a bit more than than standard (Igus bearing) systems as there is no binding for smooth shots every time and your drive force doesn't have to be centered to get smooth shots because we use professional high quality ball bearing options.

I'm sure most of the units mentioned are quite capable of the task of getting smooth shots and decisions are of course based on budget. Our system is priced to be competitive with the best available on the market currently and we feel our technology and engineering far exceeds anything in its class. Check us out and see what you think. We are offering quite large discounts for preorders.

These others could be great solutions too, but feel free to check us out at our site listed below with any questions:

It doesn't look much different than all the IGUS solutions out there. For the price, the IGUS systems will work, but if you are not familiar with them, there will more than likely be binding of some sort and if you add a lot of weight on a professional shoot, heavy lenses, a ball bearing system would be a much better solution. This ebay listing is from a company in India. They are inexpensive but you could probably save yourself money by calling IGUS directly.

We looked into IGUS originally but their bearings were inferior to the technology we decided to go with, but they are cheap or maybe I should say inexpensive. The contact there at IGUS who can guide you through an order is Laurette Goulding in Tech Sales. Her info is 401-438-2200 or you can visit IGUS.com

If you need a more professional system in the future, don't hesitate to contact us for a deal. Just let us know you are a DVX User and we'll work out a good deal for you. P.S We are sponsoring the DVX FEST film festivals quarterly now, so those who enter will have the opportunity to win a complete rig kit from our company.
