Please Help, Shooting Feature Right Now

Hi guys I don't have time to search around the forum for my answers. I'm shooting with the hvx, cinevate brevis, and nikon primes. I have a marshall monitor, a mac book pro, and I want to monitor my sharpness through a program like dvrack(onlocation). We shot a couple of days and had a few soft shots I'm not too proud about.

Please tell me what programs are available, and the settings to use on my hvx to get this to show up.

I tried a trial of Veescope and can't figure out how to flip the image. I tried Capture Magic HD and the monitor doesn't refresh fast enough while the video is coming through. Both programs look different, ex, footage is darker on Capture Magic.

I used the trial version of onlocation and it worked for a bit. Then the next day the program recognized the hvx but didn't receive any image. I didn't change any settings on the cam that I know about.

Now I can't get the camera to output to these programs. I have a new mac book pro 2.4. I'm confused, my head is spinning, and now I have to go prelight.

Any help would be great. Preferably something that works on macbook pro. I might be able to find a pc laptop in the next couple of days but even if I do, for some reason the footage doesn't come through. Thanks so much for any help.

I'm a fan of DV Rack HD2...and I know it works well on a PC laptop.

Three potential places to investigate:

1. Potential quirks with running DV Rack using the PC emulation on the MAC?

2. trial version of the software (are there limitations?) ...or the screwy illegal copy protection setup.

3. Are you sure that someone didn't accidentally set the HVX to pN mode? ...since native mode does not support firewire.

Bootcamp is not emulation on a MacBook Pro. There could be a driver issue though although I've seen dozens of reports here and elsewhere indicating that it runs without an issue.

Sorry David. I couldn't remember the name of it...which means, as you can tell, that I don't use Bootcamp. But I too have seen various issues discussed on the MAC site.

Thank you guys

Thank you guys

Thanks for the input guys. Parallel for windows doesn't work because it doesn't allow you to access your firewire port. Thank you for letting me know that the pn mode doesn't work, that was the solution to my problem, we were at 1080i before.

Boot Camp is a pain and isn't reliable enough, I tried it, major headache.

I will try ScopeBox right now, how do I rotate the image? Also, why doesn't pn mode work? Why doesn't the camera allow the firewire to output video, doesn't make sense to me.

Barry Green addresses the pN mode a couple of places on this site. The net out is that it is software that was developed to work with the on board P2 memory card. Apparently that is just not implemented across the firewire.

Be aware that Adobe no longer sells DV Rack / OnLocation as a standalone product, you can only get it as part of an expensive bundle of software (none of which I am interested in). They will also no longer update the existing DV Rack with patches.

I'm going to stick with the version of DV Rack I have, Adobe has lost me as a customer.
