Hi, Hope someone can kindly help me out in the next 30 minutes or so!!

Am fairly new to the HVX202 and its formats and about to help out a local Sunday School for a Christmas Production with some basic DV filming...

...am passing the DV tape footage onto someone else for editing....

Question:

In Tape Mode - Recording Setup I have a choice of 576i/25P or 576i/50i...can someone else with their regular MiniDV cam play and capture both formats fine to a PC?

Or do you actually need a HVX or DVX to play back the 576i/25p footage?

ie. Which format is best for me to use so they can hassle free edit the footage?

Or does it not matter?

Thank you for anyone that knows and can respond quickly!!

Both formats will play back perfectly well with not trouble at all in any NLE. They are both 100% native formats to PAL. One is interlaced and the other progressive, but that's it, no technical difference in the signal.

Thanks Mikko... I went with 576i/50i...thought it was safer...

Doesn't the 25p require the project to be setup for 25p when editing? Or does it edit ok in a regular project? I read somewhere here about issues with text and motion or something with 25p footage in a 50i project.

Any time you capture/create/render image content, then the i/p difference comes up. But the signal itself is identical - and they two can be mixed just fine.

So you can safely shoot in either format, and even if the editor accidentally puts an interlaced fade between two progressive shots, it's not going to be the end of the world.

This stuff only applies to 50i/25p (PAL) and 60i/30p (NTSC) ... 24p in NTSC is it's own mess of complications that thankfully we don't have to deal with in PAL land :)

Fantastic..thanks Mikko...I'll go with the 25P then in future...as I assume that is the superior option!

Thanks!
