Playing .m2t Files on a Mac

A friend is using VideoLan 9.8a on his Mac (MacBook Pro Uni-body, 2.6GHz, 4GB RAM, OS 10.5) to play .m2t files created by his cam corder. The player is not very stable when playing these files. Some files play start to finish, others only play through a small percentage of the file and then freeze. The player never closes after playing any of the .m2t files and has to be forced quit.

Some of the video files are quite large, others are only a handful of GBs

Can any settings be tweaked to make VideoLan work better with these files?
Is there a better player for Mac to play these type of files?

Thanks

I use Clip Wrap to re-wrap the files into Quicktime format. Though you probably have to have FCP to have the HDV quicktime plugins.

I haven't done extensive testing, but I believe it rewraps in 4:1 time. IE 1 hour of footage only takes around 15 or 20 minutes
