Looking for a place that will clean my dvx100 heads. Got a quote of $140 minimum from Video Clinic in Santa Monica.

Anyone know any service places in LA?

Thanks
Bill

Try Digitronics in L.A. (Montebello?) As I've said before: only place I'd trust with my DVX100a.
Or:
Do it yourself as per the thread on this site.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Ken! So glad I took your advice.

I decided to go to Digitron in Montebello and I'm glad I did. They're hourly rate is currently $90/hour whereas The Video Clinic in Santa Monica (where I live coincidentally) is $140/hour. So I drove clear across town (not too bad without traffic).

Eric at Digitron took care of me. It was $180 to service the camera - cleaned the heads, lubed it up, and aligned everything to spec using some special software. Not sure what the means, but hey, good service reasonably priced.

And they got it to me quicker than they planned. They said might take 2-3 weeks, but it was done in less than a week.

cheers

2-3 weeks, is that because they ship it out? I'm also looking into getting mine cleaned. I was referred to a place in Garden Gove, ADVANCE CAMERA REPAIR, by a video manager @ Sammy's Camera. Also is the DVX100b self cleaning or is that just a rumor floating around this board? Thanks

I doubt they ship it out. I think it's all in house. They probably just overestimate repair times, safer that way.

No idea about the self cleaning Q.

All I can say is I was happy with my experience at Digitron.

Cheers,
Bill

Bill,
"aligned everything to spec using special software" is really important for the DVX (probably other brands as well). I was surprised at just how many functions are "computer" controlled...including proper focus. Some back focus issues can be adjusted out with the software alignment, instead of replacing the entire lens assembly. I had a Pana replacement camera that had a defective lens assembly right out of the box (back focus is the first thing I check on a new cam). Hoping it was a software alignment issue, I had Eric check it out. He was easily able to confirm the defect and the camera was replaced by Panasonic.
That one has been performing flawlessly for about 3 years now.
Hope this helps.
