FS7: PL to E mount

Anyone have any experiences with PL to Sony E mount adaptors .. thanks

Yes have the Metabones one, it's a dumb adapter. Solid and well made. Tolerances are spot on as there has been no need for shimming any zoom lens so far. Zooms are where you will see if an adapter is over long or too short as parfocal lenses won't hold their focus if the adapter is the wrong length. Used it a few times with the Canon CN-E14.5-60mm T2.6. Thing is I find with nearly all the serious cine zooms, even many primes are all a bit heavy so I never use these PL lenses without support rails or bracket of some kind. Plus the E-Mount is not the most solid mount ever made. Other than those provisos no real issues. The strange thing though is having used the Sony prime PL set and a couple of Zeiss PL lens the lens that beats all of them including the Canon for CA is the humble cheap and cheerful Sony 18-110. Plus it's every bit as sharp from my experience as lenses that cost ten time the price. Go figure.

If I'm shooting a green screen with the FS7 I'll often use my old Sony primes that came with the F3 and an off-brand PL-E adapter I picked up on Ebay. Those lenses are a lot lighter than they look, and don't require extra support (plus I'm often using a 90 degree rig for green screen shooting, so the camera is on its side...) No issues at all with this rig.

This is really more a comment about the Sony PL lenses (original F3 series) than about the adapters themselves, but the depth of the PL mount part of certain adapters may be too shallow for the Sony lenses -- I believe I had trouble with the ones from Wooden Camera (though I think the problem here may have been with the Micro 4/3 adapters...) -- so try to test the adapter with your lenses. I never found an adapter that allows me to use them properly to adapt to Canon EF mount. (They may fit into the adapter, but the elements can't travel far enough back for infinity focus). But the lenses do PL mount perfectly and currently see a lot of use whenever I get called for an Amira job - plus having the advantage of seeing all the lens data in the viewfinder.

I have both the Metabones and Wooden Camera PL-E adapter. The Metabones one is much superior in build quality and materials, so that’s the one I’d recommend.

On the FS72 with the locking mount, the PL adapter is rock solid and you can use some shorter PL zooms without the need for additional lens support.

Thanks guys.. interesting I had been thinking about the wooden camera one.. I have a few other WC parts.. so Metabones .. dumb is fine as my PL lenses dont have any contacts.. less to go wrong !.. I would be using on an Fx9..(hopefully).. which has the locking mount and presumably the stronger front chassis of the fs7 II.. and I would use rods and support too..

I like the Metabones option because they also sell a PL to e-Mount Speed Booster version which will give full frame PL mount lenses the full frame
and give you an extra stop of light. The ideal kit might be to have both Metabones PL adapters, one with speed booster and one without which broadens your choice of focal lengths with the same glass.
