PL mount for Canon EOS DSLR

No you can't -- you can only hook up *some* of those lenses you can't afford. Remember that many PL lenses protrude very far into the camera body, and none of those lenses will work with a 7D or 5D.

Don't suppose you know if the RPP's would work, do you Barry?
Look at how far the rear element protrudes back past the mounting flange in the Red Pro Primes:

I don't know if that's too far into the body or not, but it looks pretty far. I'd be surprised if they work on an EOS body.

Same deal with the Zeiss Compact Primes, their rear elements stick way out.

They might work, I don't know. But if they don't work, it means the mirror smacking into the back of your $5,000 to $60,000 lens, and I don't want to be the guy who does the experimenting on that...

can you remove the mirror(not meaning can I physically) but mechanically would this effect the cam in any other way than the viewfinder?

On the other hand, look at the back flange of the Angenieux Optimo 24-290, one that they said they had tested and verified it works:

Looks like there's pretty much no overhang on that lens, hence why it would work.

The lenses they say they've tested are a 300mm and a zoom that goes to 290mm. My guess is that the PL mount they're engineering is probably really only going to allow long telephoto optics; it seems like wider-angle lenses usually have the further-protruding rear elements.

Kholi started a thread where he said he was considering getting in there with a pair of pliers. I'll let him be the test subject on that mod.

If they work with the Optimo Rouge, you have a couple of zooms that are considered every bit as good as primes.

I knew this would happen. Love to see it happening so fast. Let's hope the Green Lantern guys jump on their audio fix just as swiftly.

There is 0.01% chances this guy won't get enough requests.

>=D anyone remember the thread where I dismantled my hvx to repair the battery tabs?

Poor 7D. If you only cost more, you would have been saved.

Pawel Atchel did this to a 50D. Stills on Master Primes. It isn't hard if you know what you are doing, and the body weighs so little that there will be no stress on the mount.

I don't think there will be any issues at all with this Kholi. I bet you'll be at least thinking about getting a second one just to have a PL mount version ready.

BTW:

you got it dude. Glad to see you took the plunge as well. You won't regret it. Headed to location now for a shoot with 5D and 7D.

So far though:

7D Looks cleaner to my eyes.

Mkii is a stop faster at least

24p cadence is nice. Dunno if it's my eyes but may be just a hair off.

Dynamic range is too close to mkii if not the same.

Aliasing is improved but not gone. Improved is good.

Body doesn't get as hot as fast as mkii.

Battery life looks a little better? How can that be?

Same batteris as mkii? Nice

new buttons make the video more intuitive.

Great new options for those who shoot stills mote seriously. Quick switch for raw and jpg? Go canon.

All in all it's the mkii with an updated compression scheme which shows immediately in heavy grades in After Effects.
Cleaner?! Noticeably better for grading?! YEA BABY!

I'll try not to get my hopes up. Hope your thread goes up soon!

Ah, but then you lose its great 100% coverage optical viewfinder - which is what sets it apart from the 50D (and video, and...)

You can't use the ciewinder in video anyway.

And yeah, Roberto. I'm still getting at least another 7D. That makes three in the company so I can afford to hack one up. Plus I'm keeping the 5d

According to the article I linked to, if the extension behind the lens is 7mm or less it should work without having to remove the mirror.
