C300: PL adapter

It will work, but sorta defeats the purpose of PL mount; will not be as strong and secure.

Consider getting a more expensive one (with tighter manufacturing tolerances) - will probably have less play, which is killer.

The Xenons and Xenars are both available in EF and PL.

I'd stay away from the cheap Chinese crap for an adapter like that and go with an established, reputable manufacturer who specializes in adapters and optics. Tolerances are ridiculously tight and being off just the tiniest bit can throw things off, especially on wider lenses/focal lengths. Unfortunately, the PL-to-EF adapters are so thin, most do not have a built-in way to be supported to take the strain off of the weak native EF mount of the camera, so you will definitely want/need to support heavier and longer lenses.

If this works, and I get this, then I would almost always use a support for the lenses. Hopefully the primes are light enough
I know it will not be as strong as an actual PL mount. So, I do have 15mm & 19mm support if needed.

Is there a company or brand that I should consider looking at?

This will work with very few lenses, particularly in the C300. The EF version of the camera has a plate inside the mount at the bottom with the electrical contacts for the EF lenses. This plate is not there in the PL version. The reason they remove it is because most PL mount lenses will extend too far into the camera and hit it. I think there's only something like 9mm of clearance. There are very few lenses that will be able to mount, and I don't think the Mini S4s are among them.

Schneider Xenon comes in EF mount as well apart from Canon's own set of primes. And if you can spend $43K then you can get the Canon CN-E 30-300

Okay, maybe I dont have a budget to spend that much money on those lenses....
Guess it would be rentals only

I saw a video where someone took apart the C300 mount and removed the electronics inside it

Yeah, there's a Japanese "adapter" that works this way. You're not adapting, you're rebuilding the camera. It'sreally a one way trip -- you don't want to go back to the EF mount afterward. The whole thing is an absolute nightmare, neds to be collimated after the mount is switch, voids the camera warranty and is generally a terrible idea. At my old job I nixed the idea that we would ever sell that "adaptor".

I want more info(real world and from Abel) on the IBE PL-to-EF adapter, but if you really want/need a camera that can play nice with all the lenses out there, I'd suggest thinking about selling your 300 and getting an F5/55. You can put almost any lens on the planet on it(via adapters) because of it's super shallow flange depth and the design/ergonomics are head and shoulders(pun intended) above the 300's, too. It's almost worth it just for the ease of shooting with over the 300.

I was taking you serious up until the design/ergonomics statement :)

I think you should ask AbelCine directly. I've given lots of info about the adapters over the years but I no longer work there so it would not be a fair representation. I know that they can make units available for demo and they have technical experts with whom you can discuss all your needs.

I remember when you were there, Mitch ;) I don't think they have actually had one there yet to test/demo.

We have sold quite a few of the TRIAD converters to convert the EF mount camera C300 to PL mount. Our clients have had great success with this converter. It mounts securely to the camera using the top cold shoe as a secure connecting point in addition to the screws on the front mount. It does offer a cold shoe for the handle to mount. Yes you do need to remove the EF connector plate and if your camera is under warranty and you damage it when doing the change out you will not be covered.

This is not a product I consider as an adapter but a converter. It is NOT something that I'd swap back and forth on a regular/daily basis, but if you have a job that must be PL, or if you are doing a job that will run for a few weeks or longer in PL then this should work quite well. http://www.bandpro.com/triad.html
