Picture Quality isnt great.

I think the reason you're not happy with the footage from the DVX is because you shot in 50i on squeeze mode. You are losing resolution.

Really?? 50i squeeze gives reduced resolution? Whats the best setting to use to get the best quality?

When shooting squeeze you have about 25% of resolution loss either way...!
But if you re in progressive mode (25p) nobody will notice because the quality is just great...
If you shoot squeeze while you re in interlace mode (50i) the combination of stretching and interlacing will cause your image to look bad...!
Best settings: 1) squeeze mode/progressive
2) normal mode/interlace
I know its bad...but you cant realy have good quality interlaced 16:9 from a dvx...

Forgot to mention...nice video...

When shooting with progressive on squeeze mode make sure that the V DETAIL FREQ is set to THIN. This combination will result in the highest resolution.

So i noticed that the video you upload to Vimeo is 512x288.

Did you render to that resolution and then try burning that to 720 x 576 pixels (PAL DVD)?

I just optimized it for vimeo, I burned the DVD at 1024 x 576

Um how is that possible, meaning that did you burn it to a dvd for standalone play back (.vob) or did you burn it to a dvd as a data file. The resolution for a DVD can not excede 720 x 576 pixels (PAL DVD) or 720X480 (NTSC)?

I believe you may have rendered to that but in the long run it was something like this
files through a batch resize conversion, this time in order to turn files that are 1024 x 576 pixels into 720 x 576 pixels. Effectively, you will then have given your pixels a pixel aspect ratio of 1.422.
Aspect Ratios

In my opinion, almost everything looks like trash on those big screen TVs. What does it look like on a normal TV from five years ago? like a 19 or 27 inch CRT like TV? My DVX footage looks amazing on those, but trash on a 32 inch LCD.

Just so you know, for the future, the real reason to own a DVX100 is to use 25p mode (in Europe). Any old camcorder shoots it 50i. It's 25p that makes DVX footage look awesome.
