C100: Picture Profiles What are you Using

Hey all,

Hope you are well.

Just interested to see what people are shooting with picture profile wise?

At the moment I am shooting with WIDE DR for most of my projects with Noise Reduction to 1 and Sharpening to -7.

Still yet to shoot with Cinema CP9. Does anybody have settings for this at all?

I have shot with CP LOCKED [C-log] Impressed with the results.

Thanks

C-Log, all the way (I edit most of what I shoot myself, so I see no need to compromise on the grading. I might go with WideDR for something I hand off - so far I've just told the client that it's log and requires at least minimal color correction).

Hi Paul,

I am interested in trying your profile, do you have any examples of non-nature? Especially faces. Never have been happy with C100's WB.

Thanks,

Hi Paul,

Thanks,

If you check page two of the thread I listed above there is a screen grab of an interview I did. I think it's about 1/2 stop too hot, but it's untouched straight from the camera. Give it a go, I think you will like the results, as the WideDR on the C100 always looked too green/blue for my tastes.

I am using Paul's profile for a few weeks now and all I can say is that I won't be using the Wide DR anymore. I too feel that the stock profile was to greenish. Great work Paul!

Hi Paul,

Seems like you set yourself up as our tutor! Thanks. Saw the face screen grab and that is good, hard to judge with nature since it can't go wrong, but I have struggled to get the green/purple out of Wide DR's WB and I don't know if there will be any correction in post. So if I understand correctly, from your post of 12/20/13, I use the Wide DR and tweak the following, correct?:

My Custom Profile is based on Cowpunks as a base:
I created a custom profile called WIDE PF, listing only the changes below- here are the settings:
Gamma curve is L:5, M:8, H:5
Gamma: Wide DR
Black-Master Ped: -1
Knee ON: Slope: -15 Point:109
COLOR MATRIX (This is the biggy) WIDE DR Gain:+30, Phase: +3, R-G: -20, R-B: +11, G-R:-23, G-B: -14, B-R: -10, B-G: +1

Then I rename that Picture Profile as Wide DR PF? I should save my original factory Wide DR for safety?

Thanks,

Knee has no effect on cine1, wdr and canon-log gamma, read this in the manual. It works only on normal gamma.

I'm glad others are having good luck with using this profile. I did all this way last October and to be honest havent done much else since. As such the exact way I set it up is a little foggy nedcam! If I remember you select the WideDR profile, then copy it to another custom slot, then make these changes and rename it. It sounds like the KNEE setting doesnt matter, however, that is what I have mine set too so you can or can't set it I guess. The big thing is the color matrix settings.

I don't think I did any noise reduction settings to my base version of this, I made another for low light that I did add more noise reduction too. Again, just copy to another slot, then make any additional changes, (such as more noise reduction) then rename and save.

I always do some other minor tweaks in post, but this is a great setting to use if you are handing the footage off to a Producer and don't know if they will be doing any further color correction. It gets you a great image, with wide latitude and colors. It CAN STILL be improved on a shot by shot basis in post but doesnt require it like the CINE settings.

Good luck!
