Pics from the set

Dug into my way-back folder and found this gem from several years ago. I think the infomercial still runs once in a while... late at night, when there's nothing else on TV.

C2V, not to go too far off topic, but does the B6 have a decent low end? I haven't heard one (consciously) and it seems so small that it would sound thin.

You'd be amazed. Specs claim nearly flat response 20-20k (I know, I know... never trust factory specs). Real-world performance comes remarkably close to 20-20k, though not quite as flat as they claim, and I've never found it to be thin-sounding at all.

Good to know! I wish I had one to test. I am getting a Da Cappo DA 12 headset mic to demo, and it (as well as their lavs) has about the same size cap. The company is rn by former Rode GM David Green and he's really proud if the mic. It's a mic more for singing and loud talkers. You can also submerge it under water and it will still work. I got the cardioid too for environments with monitors. Both card and omni say 20-20 flat response, so we'll see if the sound quality is OK in the card pattern.

OK sorry for hijacking Picks from the Set. I've just been into lavs a lot lately.

No! Not ready for my scene. I will be in my trailer!

I can't pass this up..

WRANGLER :"wadda mean rat? - my script says racoon - well when was that changed!"

RACOON: "well they can't just .. get in the car, I need some sort of back story, why am I there, what am I feeling at the time"

SOUNDIE: "I can't get any closer - if I move in the racoon starts to hump the mike"

DIRECTOR "it's alright, he won't actually bite you - he a method actor, he really get's into the role"

GAFFER: " yea,I can put some light behind him but if he bites the cable, it'll be pretty messy"

EXTRA: "hang on - the racoon died and so you want me to put my hand up where? - will that be like a day rate?"

PRODUCER: "there's no way he can sue.. is there? (gets on the phone)"

These are 2 shots of my set up for going to clients and getting a voice over from them. Tascam DR-680, AT4050 mic, stand and pop filter. The mic sounds really nice, though I prefer my Sputnik, but that is tube and has a power module to carry around. This was at a bank in a square room (worst acoustic scenario) with nothing on the walls. I used my ghetto studio trick of wrapping my thick Dickies jacket around the mic to block the wall reflections. It worked! I was embarrassed to have it look like that for these women to do their VO, but the alternative was a room where you could hear the rain outside dripping on something metal making a terrible clang.

I know, it's not exactly a "set" but it's audio gear and nerds like us like that stuff.

Here's a silly one from this morning.
This guy is an expert in everything "charlie the tuna" especially memorabilia.

My favorite was the one that looked exactly like a real can of tuna
but was a tape measure. Errrr.

and yes, i too was surprised that they actually requested a sound person.

however, it seemed they cared not 2 shits about sound tho. place was noisy as all get out and they just wanted to "roll with it". high heels walking on tile, squeaky doors, etc... basically a sound persons nightmare...

Sometimes I have luck (wel 80% of the time) that the DOP also says "ok, this isn't going to work for sound we have to find something else or find a solution for a few things"
