Photography 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, or 1:1?

I have a question, which is the normal option for standard photography?

If you are a Hasselblad owner, probably 1:1
If you are a 35mm owner, 3:2
If you are a 4x5 view camera owner... probably 1.25:1
If you are a 5x7 view camera owner... probably 1.4:1
If you are an 8x10 view camera owner... probably 1.25:1 (again... but much bigger...)

In addition, there are backs for the Hasselblads and view cameras that allow for
a number of different aspect ratios of the negative. I use to shoot a lot of 2 1/4 x 3 1/4, aka 6x9, on a view camera, with a roll film back... (6x7 was for weenies... and forget 6x4.5...)

But in all cases, in the darkroom the enlarger can crop to other aspect ratios... and if all else fails... an exacto knife and ruler will get any aspect ratio you desire...
