Philip Bloom Certification? I want to be certified by a true Cinematographer

i just face palmed so hard i flipped my seat backwards....

a great reel is the best "certification" in this end of the industry

What if I want it too

I just realized that this is what my career has been lacking all these years! I need it so people will respect me and stuff.

First Philip Bloom endorsed pocket dollies, then he endorsed the people.

Amazing! He had me at hello...

First Philip gained his knowledge of cameras and camera equipment as well as general cinematography, then people wanted him to endorse things. Bottom line: Being good is it's own endorsement.

I love it!
Anyways, I totally agree with "be your own endorsement"...just shoot and make yourself known and better such as Mr. Philip Bloom himself .
I have been shooting since the betacam days just for fun like many on here and of course fell in love with it.
So here is my thing. I have been taking Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 1995. Am I a Black belt? yes, I got it in 2007...that's 12 years. Of course I started from the bottom and just went my way up like most. My learning curve in BJJ is Average, there are many practitioners that can achieve a BJJ Black in as little as 5 years or less, like BJ Penn and a couple others. So basically my mindframe is always learning from a mentor or instructor and just building that knowledge and using it. I would think the same for any kind of hobby or interest. There are some people that just don't have that gift or talent and want to learn and develop a passion or love the best they can. I have been following Philip Bloom for over a year now and have nothing but great words for him. He has come a long way and has had experience that most of us don't have, talent that a lot of people have but I don't YET.
I know that if you give the same project to 10 different videographers/cinematographers, you are going to get 10 different outcomes, never will be the same. If you give it to 10 different talented videographers/cinematographers..you will get 10 different masterpieces. Yes, I learn everyday in cinematography. This is now my 1rst passion since I have been injured for the last 3 1/2 years, I plan on taking it one day at a time. I believe even the best cinematographers still learn everyday, learning everyday will only get you better...I learned Jiu Jitsu and when I look online or go to my old Dojo to watch the students, I still see things I never seen before. Cinematography is an art just like any art you pick up new things and even make up new things..Philip takes it to new boundaries and I have seen a lot of you guys do the same thing, there are a lot of gifted cinematographers/videographers out there. Am I one of them? Maybe not, but nothing is going to stop me from getting to the level of Philip Bloom. I have some pieces that I am proud of and I love to get new ideas from you guys and other people as well, that is why I am on vimeo everyday and just studying...thats what it is..a learning process for me.
The only Difference in Jiu Jitsu and Cinematography is in Jiu Jitsu your outdoing your opponent, in Cinematography...your outdoing yourself or your last project.
I hope you guys know where I am going on this, I know that you don't need a school or an instructor.....but I am sure a lot of you look up to someone that does such a superb job and tell yourself " I want to be just like Michael...or I mean Philip Bloom" haha. You guys know what I mean, We just all come from a different background of learning. A lot love to learn on their own, nothing wrong with that. But others would love to learn from a Guru who can give them a "jump" and help them through the cinematography process as well. I tend to want to do both....Read and learn and follow instruction from someone else...Would love to learn from Philip Bloom..with his seminar here in my hometown Las Vegas, but with a big family that I have...no can afford.
Well see you guys out there in the forums.
OH, One more thing.................I'M PHILIP BLOOM CERTIFIED!! YEA BABY YEA!

I'm a Sean Finnegan Certified Cinematographer. I'd recommend him. Only five easy payments of $559.99.

I hope this is not going to be the uniform of Bloomers with a Philip Bloom Certificate...

Aye, although at the end of the day - especially for cinematography - it's how not just talented you are, but how well you click with the right crew and for the right project.

One talented DOP may not gel with one talented Director- for example, when Fredrik Bäckar in Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was replaced with Jeff Cronenberg etc.

Being certified by Philip Bloom, I'd think sounds entirely weird and misleading. Like Philip Bloom [if he was directing or producing or any above the line role] is endorsing you to do the cinematography on their project and that you have worked with him personally and he would be held accountable... or that your style and people skills was similar to Philip Bloom as a recommendation as his replacement.

Just sayin' not entirely good idea to be endorsed by any 1 person, even if you think it's in jest or in adoration, it doesn't look good at all.

I think best and funniest club is the American Film Editors certification... it means having a A.C.E at the end of your name lol

Positive: "He isn't gonna do a bad job, because I have faith Philip Bloom said so."

Negative: "It's Philip Bloom's fault the guy did a bad job and there's suffering in the world."

LMAO, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA , AH MAN, THAT WAS FUNNY Gary. ROTF :)

Philip is good at what he does, but if I were gonna get "certified" from a Dp. I don't think he would be on my list :). No offense to phil Bloom though.

This is very silly. Flattering but very silly. You don't want to be "certified" by anyone. You are not becoming a plumber or a massage therapist. You don't need a certificate, certainly not from me! Go out and shoot great stuff. Make a name for yourself that is the best thing to do.

Best of luck!

Philip
