Philip Bloom Certification? I want to be certified by a true Cinematographer

It's a small world

It's a small world

Hey Joe Jitsu,

As a Philip Bloom fan I immediately checked out this thread and just wanted to say hi. I've been learning the art of videography for a couple of years but my background is also BJJ, and have been teaching for the last ten years or so. It's a small world...

All the best,

Gary.

Awesome Gary! I've been in BJJ since 1995 and taught from 2002-2014

What's your lineage?

I HATE certification schemes - so far my experience is that it's money VERY badly spent, often good intentions, but they morph into money making OR time eating schemes. A few I think of now have to employ staff to handle the certification, and the Principal has a business to run, and just doesn't have the time to devote to scrutinising people's work. Philip used to often comment that just producing the videos he does ate into his real work time. I can't see him being interested.

Paelears....is this a sneaky way you are trying to get certified? If so...we want in. JoeJITSU is one lucky guy. He got in at the ground level. I got an idea...lets get 8 or your friends to get 8 of their friends in on it.

Ah - I get it, JoeJitsu's handling to all for Philip? Is there any way I could get certified. We're about to leave the European Community here so that could delay my certification - your Mr Obama says so, or at least I think he did. All our Chinese cheap junk has a certification mark on it, so maybe I'm wrong. I could take a bit of video on my phone - if I send this to JoeJitsu, with a pile of pounds would this work, do you think?

Actually even a few of the people who don't like me think I'm fit to be certified, although my wife says they don't mean it nicely.

I think I'd like a Charles Papert certification, how to I get one of those?
There's a law firm in Panama that's quite adept in arranging clandestine money transfers, including those for CPC's. I hear, after few more of those are handed out, CP will be minted a new billionaire. I just don't know in what currency.

Amazing response.

Only certification I believe in is performed by garret brown and Jerry holway.

I'd be happy to send you guys certificates in exchange for good bourbon.

And even then, they are careful to point out that the certificate is just to show you have taken the course, not to announce that you are a certified Steadicam operator. I should add that if anyone is considering taking a Steadicam workshop, there has been no better time; the opportunity to spend time with those gents in that environment is pure gold. Garrett is one of the great inventors in our industry and so engaging. I took the class from him 30 years ago and while it was a fortune for me back then, it was worth every penny.

An old electrical lecturer at college once told me about the UK system of 'approvals' to do electrical work in certain areas - kitchens and bathrooms. He said that a year after it started, he had asked for a list of people that had failed to get it, bearing in mind the expensive annual membership. He never got the list. This is what always gets me - you pay the money, you get the certificate.
