Phantom 65

Has anybody heard of this camera? It's another 4K camera, but it can shoot at 125fps in 4K mode. It doesn't have any REDCODE RAW support of course. And their sensor most likely will be noisy. And it only goes to ISO 600, the RED ONE is only at 160 but Jim said it could go to 800 without noise. I think the field of focus would be just like 65mm film.

Although I don't think this camera would be much competition for RED (If it's even real or even comes out). I think it would be fun to have. And I don't mean to judge it, but, I think the RED is probably better.

This is a six figure camera. There is nothing for me to compare.
Cheers,

it's a high speed camera - 1000 fps. That makes for an interesting rental possibility to pair with a Red for action shots.

I've only heard good things about Vision Research. My bet is that there is quite a big difference in price, along with no on-board recording capability. I do want to make sure that I was not mis-quoted. I never said that our sensor shoots ISO 800 with no noise. We have a sensor that has incredible noise characteristics... but no noise is not realistic.

Jim

I'm afraid it was Graeme (not Jim) who mentioned ISO 400 (not 800) and as an acceptable milestone not as fully noiseless standard, even if we'd like to. Please, anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

Has there been any indication-- least a sign-- of the price for the Phantom? This is my first time hearing of it.

I've misinterpreted this post to say the image is to be "Clean and virtually noiseless." at ISO 800. Sorry Jim.

Vision Research has some very good specialty cameras.. and are great rentals. Not the kinda camera you wanna just go out and buy, the Phantom 65 is incredibly expensive.

I shot all the stuff on www.purposelabs.com with the Phantom9.

really nice stuff! I notice the ambient light on the "egg breaking on plate" sequence is slowly flickering. Is that 60 or 120 Hz flicker from a normal bulb?

yeah thats a normal tungsten bulb.. shot off hz rate... shooting at anything over 120 fps requires a tremendous amount of light.

for most dramatic stuff.. 120 fps is more than enough for slow motion. You would never realisticly go over that unless you are doing some sort of commercial or super specialized sequence.
