Motivated to work harder

These days at the gym I'm really into techno and techno/rock and stuff like that -- try searching for these songs:

Thomas Falke "Revolution On The Dance Floor"
Groove Cutter "My Shooter"
Control One "Just A Little Bit"
Ian Carey "Redlight"
Kevin Weg "Dead Radio"

I don't usually go for techno but these are sort of like a wierd crossover between rock and techno/trance.

Most of these I found at this itunes page -- http://www.electricfilebox.com/tracks

I've got a good 30 minute workout that my brother and I do. It's really more of a fitness test, but if you do it several times a week you won't believe how fast your time will drop.

-Run one mile
once completed, then in no particular order (and obviously not in straight sets):
-100 pullups
-100 pushups
-100 situps
-100 dips

The original goal was to shoot for 30 minutes, which we both did on the first try. My best time was somewhere around 18 minutes, when I was practicing regularly about a year ago.

I've found a new life in exercise and I love it.

When I started going to the gym more consistently on March 3rd of this year, I weighed in at 214, and as of today I'm down to 191:)

I'm just getting started as I have a long way to go, but I will reach my goals.

Good luck to everyone with your goals:thumbsup:

we've been getting into some more complicated Olympic lifts lately...

3 reps, 3 sets of each

Hang Squat Clean - 95 lbs, 115 lbs, 135lbs

Front Squat - 95, 135, 155

Split Jerk - 55, 95, 115

Then I ran a mile (surprised myself!) - 6:42

feeling way good about that time! :)

I ran a 5k a few weeks ago. I love to run, but hadn't for a while. I was still able to run it in 28:28. That's about a 9 min mile. Not bad for me.

I also competed in another Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournement, but was choked out after 2min :embarasse. They guy has been training a lot longer than me though, so what can you do.

I have lost some muscle mass and weight over the last year. My body (and I) can't seem to keep up with all of the Jiu Jitsu's cardio. We do plenty of push ups, sit up, sprawls, lunges, and various other drills at class, but no lifting. There is a full gym at the school where I train, so I have been hitting the weights here and there. It is a hard thing to balance though. If I hit the weights hard before class, I have a hard time doing any of the drills and/or sparing during class. If I try and lift after class, my body is pretty much spent, so I don't get a full work out. The other issues is that I do want to gain strength, but I don't want to put on too much muscle and move up to the next weight class. I am normally around 184 and am able to cut down to 174 for tournaments. Anyway, I guess the good part is that I'm staying active and healthy either way. 190lbs and ripped would be nice though :cheesy:

Thomas, are those crossfit workouts? That is the one program where I saw the most all around results. Maybe I can squeeze in 3 WOD's a week. :Drogar-Angry(DBG):

ya i'm in a crossfit program.

I've been pretty good about it this year, but of course then I injured my leg at the beginning of may in a stupid softball game, so I was out for 2 weeks, then work started to rule my life so one more week wasted. But I just got back into it this week.

so is your brazilian jiu-jitsu just grappling, or do you guys throw punches and kicks like in UFC or other MMA fighting?

what do you think of Kimbo Slice?

ok all... I've been working out about 4-5 times a week.. try to work out every week day.

I have been riding a stationary bike for 30 min. a night and doing 50 sit-ups. Combine that with eating less, and no more sugar and fast food, I feel so much healthier.

good work briceman.
it can be pretty tough for those of us who sit at computers all day. I don't know if you do, but I'm basically required to sit at a computer for 8 hours a day. That plus fast food makes it really easy to get out of shape, but I'm so glad I've been eating healthy and working out, especially now that I'm going to a couple family reunions this year and I've been in a lot of weddings. Helps me look and feel my best!

Wierd. I already posted earlier today, but I must have done something wrong because I don't see it here. Anyway...

Crossfit is great. Out of all the various programs that I have tried, I had the best results with crossfit. Bummer about your leg. Life happens. As long as you get back to it when you can, that is what counts.

The tournaments that I go to are sport Jiu-Jitsu which is grappling only (Gi and no-Gi). We do train MMA, but mainly focus on grappling. I love it. Good times.

Kimbo Slice. Scary dude. I hope he lands a good contract before he ends up beating somebody to death in a back alley. :Drogar-BlackEye(DBG Some people are born to fight... and only fight. 24/7. Kimbo is one of them.

Congrats Briceman on kicking things into gear

took a week off last week...that sucked.

anyways started again today with clean & jerks...30 for time.

I pulled 95 lbs for a time of 4:35

can't walk anymore...

edit:
at crossfit we have "levels" of fitness. You start at nothing, and if you complete a bunch of exercises and meet the standards, then you become a "healthy beginner", then intermediate, then advanced, and then elite or something like that. Elite is for Olympians, very hard to get to. So I'm trying to complete my healthy beginner stuff now, and I knocked out 8 of the 20 something today.

It's mostly easy stuff - like do 3 pull ups, 3 dips, 10 push ups, 50 squats, mile run in 9 minutes, etc...but some stuff is hard like hold an L sit for 10 seconds.

2 rounds for time

10 standing long jumps
100 m lunges
21 dumbbell swings
21 burpees
21 pull ups
21 knees to elbows

my time - 21:45

in case you're wondering what a burpee is (i didn't when i first started)

burpees - start in standing position, then squat, put your hands on the ground, kick your feet behind you, do a push up, kick your knees back up to your chest and stand up, finish it with a vertical jump. should be one fluid motion.

Running 3.10miles (5km) yesterday. Took me 28 minutes. Woah, quite slow. I am in really good shape (bodywise, trained), but my long distance condition is quite poor.

I am slim, I can jump, do backflips, handspring or whatever you want with acrobatic skill and I am quite strong, but running is not the best right now. Shame on me :D Need to do that more regularly.

I'm on a new plan and it's finally working!

I'm eating six meals a day, every three hours or so I eat a small meal. I don't eat ANY carbs after 3pm and I run every day or every other day. I hang out on the runners world forums, they help keeping me enthusiastic. I'm in Westwood so I run over to Beverly Hills or Brentwood and jog by the homes I want to buy when I have real money.

I've lost about 8 pounds over the last four weeks, pretty excited and still energized. I found the key is to register for races every month so you have a goal. I have a 5K this saturday and another planned for next month, then I'll move up to 10K's, etc. My last 5K time was 22:59 so I need to beat that on Saturday ;)

I'm currently 6'3 240lbs. My healthy weight is 215. I'm on my way!

Yeah, 5Km. Don't worry about your time, just keep running at a slow pace for now. You'll catch up to a better time if you keep at it. Every time I push myself, I get hurt, then, I can't run for 2-3 weeks while I heal. I learned my lesson.
